Greetings to our Limerick Post readers

Limerick Post Article, Click to enlarge

If you came here after reading the article on page 7 of the Limerick Post looking for scandal and intrigue about stuff being deleted from this website, then prepare to be disappointed.

The article, which was written by an unidentified author, claimed that a story regarding the recladding of Roches Stores on the junction of O’Connell Street and Liddy Street was scrubbed from the site.

This is not the case. The story was not deleted, but archived, as all stories over 7 days old are on this site.

I have also contacted the newspaper with information on the architect who designed the renovations on the store. Now while I can acknowledge that despite all the plans were drawn up, this project may not actually go ahead, it would have been nice to be contacted before the paper would accuse this site of shenanigans such as scrubbing. They made an effort to contact archiseek, but not us.

And let me assure all those that read this, unlike the article in the Post, no innocent trees died to make what you read now availible to you!

I will give the Post their dues though, at least they didn’t refer to us as a chatroom, like the Leader did. That was just evil.

UPDATE: CalogneMike had this reply for the Limerick Post.

Firstly the pictures are not fakes but are freely available to see at the www.nma.ie under on-going projects. [Newenham Mulligan & Associates architects for Roches Stores!]
Secondly the irritation by the Limerick City Council I mentioned was written about by the same paper see below.
Thirdly I quote “The posting referring to the “recladdingâ€? on the Limerick Blogger website was removed the day after the Limerick Post contacted Roches Stores about the development.â€? Rubbish it is still there to be seen under the April archives!

Munster v Biarrittz countdown – 23 Days to go…

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

The Limerick blogger Munster V Biarritz countdown begins as Ireland’s low fares airline put a spanner in the works for Munster fans looking for ways to get to the game.

Ryanair are today trying to get themselves out of the bad books of unhappy Munster fans after the abolition of their Dublin to Cardif service ahead of the Heineken Cup final on May 20th.

They are trying to woo back customers who have chosen to fly the new Air Aran service which is due to fly from the two cities from May 1st rather than take alternative destinations from Ryanair.

The airline have today offered 2,000 free flights from Shannon to any European destination for every winning point by which Munster beats Biarritz.

They have also offered to give away a further 20,000 flights if Ronan O Gara can equal or better in the final, the 20 points he scored against Leinster.

Seats on aircraft and by boat are a rare comodity. and some fans are set to travel to London and get the train to Cardif for the game, as flights to neighbouring airports are totally booked out.

Russell’s owner’s kidnapping charge put back to May

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

Raphiel Mulally will have to wait until May 4th to find out his fate as a decision on an apeal of the leniency of his kidnapping charge has been put back to that date.

Mulally, with an addres at The Ennis Road, Limerick, paid two men to kidnap a Liberian national in the mistaken belief that he had broken into the house of his sister.

The three men, Mulally and his co-accused, Thomas McNamara and John Goodison walked free from Limerick Circuit Court in October 2005 after they received suspended sentences (have a guess who handed down THAT sentence).

The victim, Jude Romanus, was told that he and his wife would be killed if items stolen from Mulally’s Sister’s house were not returned.

Defence cousel for Mulally tolt the three judge apeals court on Tuesday that Mulally had lead a “blameless and na extremely beneficial life,” and that he had “lost control” on 15th January 2005.

Mr. Justice Noel Fennelly, one of the three apeals court judges stated that it was hard to deny that the false imprisonment charge deserved a custodial sentence. He also said that there should be “equity” between the three accused.

The court was told that Mulally supports a family member who attends an adiction treatment centre and if he was jailed, he would not be able to attend the necessary meetings.

Mulally’s wife told the court that the media coverage surrounding the case had left their three children devistated, and the whole family were traumatised.

A decision will be made on May 4th, Mulally was remanded on continuing bail.

Carol Moran does it again

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the criminal’s favorite Circuit Court judge let a man who turned up at Abbeyfeale district courthouse armed to the teeth with improvised weapons, walk free.

The man, Timmy O’Brien (34) from the aptly named Clash Road in Abbeyfeale, was found to have a car bootload of weapons when his car was searched by Gardai.

The seized cache of weapons included a knife, some hammers, wooden sticks, iron bars, and golfclubs.

O’Brien was before the gentle judge along with two other individuals charged in relation to the incident which took place at 1100 hrs on April 12th Thomas O’Brien (41) and his son Patrick O’Brien (18) also from the Clash Road, after it took eleven Gardai to calm a row they were involved in outside the courthouse in Abbeyfeale.

It turns out that these men were on bail for another matter, and the state wanted this bail revoked in light of the incident at Abbeyfeale. However, Judge Carol Moran, in his infinate wisdom remanded the three on continuing bail, on their own bond of €1000 each. They also had to stick to certain conditions.

You won’t find it on your Riverfest leaflet, but if you are in Limerick this weekend, you will come accross an annual tradition amongst the scumbag fraternity. The annual “Lets burn some shit and get away with it” night, shortened down to “Bonfire night.”

The stink of smoke will shroud the city on the night of April 30th.

Former Galway mayor apologises for Limerick slur

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

The former Mayor of Galway City has apologised for his slur on Limerick City.

John Mullholland caused a stir last week when, after a break-in at one of his bookies officeses he eluded that if nothing was done about crime, “Galway would become another Limerick.”

Mr. Mulholland is quoted in this week’s Limerick independent as saying “I made my apologies to the mayor of Limerick on local radio and on the Joe Duffy Show. It was an off-the-cuff remark, but it was over the top and shouldn’t have been made.”

Mayor Diarmud Scully gladly accepted Mr. Mulholland’s apology stating; “I fully accepted the apology when we appeared on Galway local radio. The comment was made when he was under stress after the break-in and Anyway the apology has been accepted and it is important that Galway and Liemrick work together as closely as possible.”

Mayor Scully has vowed to continue to challenge slurs against the city.

Keane murder witness pleads guilty to contempt

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

One of the material witnesses in the collapsed murder trial of Liam Keane (left) has pleaded guilty to contempt of court.

David Murphy (21) of Lee Estate, King’s Island, Limerick was called as a witness in the trial of Liam Keane, who was accused of murdering Eric Leamy, after he gave several statements to Gardai. However, when in the witness box, he refused to give evidence to the court.

His refusal along with the collective amnesia of other witnesses caused the murder trial to collapse.

Before Limerick Circuit Court today, Murphy pleaded guilty of contempt, and also denied that he had been intimidated by members of the Keane family.

His fate will be decided on Friday.

Ennis drugs cache came from Limerick

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

From the Clare People:

Last weeks heroin haul at an Ennis hotel had been transported from Limerick according to Gardai. More than €15,000 worth of the drug was seized by Gardai during a search of the hotel bedroom in Ennis town early last Tuesday.

Two men – one in his 20s and the other in his 30s – were seen getting into a car and entering a hotel carpark. They were stopped and searched by members of the Clare Garda Division Drugs Unit.

A key to a hotel bedroom was found, and the room was searched, yielding the drugs.

The two – one from Ennis and the other from outside the town – were detained at Ennis Garda station before being released without charge. A file is being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

It was part of Garda surveilance into drug dealing in Ennis, and follows similar seizures of heroin in recent weeks.

“We are satisfied the heroin came from Limerick. It would be for sale around Ennis town. The seizure is substantial in our fight against heroin.” said a Garda spokesman.

“Heroin is becoming very common around towns like Ennis. It is very addictive and tends to lead to more crime. Crime levels increase as a result of heroin use.

There has been quite a number of small heroin seizures in recent weeks. We are anxious it does not take hold.” he added

The drugs trade obvously still booming in Limerick then.
