Residents too scared to attend public meetings

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

Our drug-dealing neighbours will be present at the meeting and we fear a backlash if we express our fears and opinions.

Please help us,

The short note delivered to John Fitzgerald on behalf of local residents in Southill who were too afraid to attend a public meeting being held concerning the regeneration of the area.

250 people did attend the meeting however, and the large attendance meant that it had to be moved from the local community hall to the parish church.

Darragh the lucky mascot for UL bohs

Friday, April 27th, 2007

On New Year’s Eve, we wrote a feature on Darragh Ryan, who travelled to Spain to undergo revolutionary surgury which is hoped will help him walk.

Darragh has Cerebral Palsy and epilepsy, and as a result, has been confined to a wheelchair as a result.

But thanks to the microsurgury he received in 2006, it is looking like the rugby nut will be walking onto the pitch very soon.

The Limerick Leader did a feature on Darragh this week, which can be read below.

Ricin found in Limerick Prison

Friday, April 27th, 2007

It is the first time the deadly substance has been discovered in the country, and Limerick Prison is the place where a trace of it was discovered.

It is believed that the substance was found when the FBI in the United States tipped off Gardai about a foreign national who was on his way to off someone in Munster.

It is believed that ricin was going to be the chosen method of execution for the man’s target. However he was arrested before he could reach his goal.

The amount of ricin found was too small to be fatal however.
