Aer Lingus screws the West – Day 4: Economical with the truth, Economical with the truth, Pants on Fire

I’ve been told my original headline was a little too strongly worded.

Noel Dempsey speaks:

But, he said, Aer Lingus is now a commercial company that has to make decisions on the basis of making money and the decision is theirs to make.

Aer Lingus were already making money from Shannon-Heathrow.

As a private company it has to do what it’s shareholders tell it to do. The Government has a 25 percent share in Aer Lingus, and Michael O’Leary has already offered his 25 percent stake in the company to call a halt to the Shannon move.

Yes indeed there may be more money in a move to Belfast for Aer Lingus, but the path to more money may not be in the interest of Aer Lingus’ shareholders, A representative for Ryanair speaking on Live 95FM yesterday said that the decline in the economy of the west of Ireland would be bad for their company as they operate many routes out of Shannon.
