[In pictures]City Christmas lights turned on

The new “green” Christmas tree on O’Connell Street. Trust me when I say it, it is bright, very bright. The lights are Light Emitting Diodes (LED) which take up less energy than normal lightbulbs. The tree itself is made from recycled metal taken from what was removed from Thomond Park as part of it’s redevelopment. The tree has it’s own power supply which uses a wind turbine to generate power. The tree is fifteen metres in height.

Conventional bulbs for the lights on O’Connell Street.

LED lights for William Street again this year. The building on the left with lights on it is Keanes Jewellers.

Overhead the junction of O’Connell Street and William Street is this LED Christmas Tree.

Thomas Street has LED Christmas trees on one side, and the existing trees on the other side have been fitted with lights as well.

The same with Bedford Row. Supermacs is on the left (out of shot)
