Argos flies in UK staff to act as “strikebreakers”

Argos has flown in staff from the United Kingdom to fill in for those who have taken one day of industrial action in a row over wages.

18 of the 31 Argos stores in Ireland, including those in Limerick, have been the subject of picket lines today.

The staff are looking for a 10% pay increase.

Up until last year, Argos would pay over and above the prescribed national wage agreements. However, the company has since implemented a policy of giving wage increases based on the recommendations set out in the Towards 2016 wage agreement.

35% of Argos staff are members of the Mandate Trade Union.
