President to launch regeneration on January 21

President of Ireland, Mary McAlease, has accepted an invitation to launch the unvailing of the Regeneration Vision plan on January 21.

It is intended that the plan will involve the creation of two town centres in both Moyross and Southill, to replace the run-down and vandalised estates. Ballinacurra Weston and St. Mary’s Park are also included in the regeneration project, said to cost in the region of €700m

A further, more detailed plan of action for Limerick will be released in June of this year.

ok, is the intention to leave the estates standing? or to level the estates and build town centres? where are all the shoppers to come from?more importantly where are all these people going to move to?
Government funded private housing? I hope it works!

I do think that Robinson was on an earlier program about Southill in the 70's saying it was a "ghetto of the future"

I have my doubts about this , but I'll remain positive and say, lets hope it benefits the whole city.

Fitting that Mary McAlease has been asked to launch it actually, wasn't she very critical of the government saying that Southill was a disaster in the early the early 80's, only for Ray Burke to say it was well built (Butter wouldn't melt in his mouth, must be telling the truth)
