Drugs in prison: 45 percent of 500 prisoners tested at Limerick prison, tested positive for some sort of opiate. 37% tested positive for cannabis.

Drugs everywhere else: Peter Power has announced that there is to be a task force on drugs set up in Limerick City. The Limerick East TD said that while there was a task force for the Midwest, one dedicated to Limerick was now necessary.

REPs Payments: It seems that Donal O’Brien will finally get a few bob for his troubles. Minister for Agriculture Mary Coughlan has agreed with the suits in Europe on a method of getting money to farmers left without due to the restructuring of the REPs payment scheme. Last week Mr. O’Brien, from Pallaskenry staged a sit-in protest and hunger strike in protest at the way the restructuring of the scheme was leaving them with no payments.

    COULD SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT REP,S PAYMENTS ARE? AND HOW DO THEY AFFECT THE FARMERS? AND WHY THEY ARE LEFT TO TAKE SUCH DRASTIC ACTION TO GET SOMEONE TO PRACTICALLY DIE FOR TO GET THEM?
