Handover day is March 1

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

There are big welcoms and long goodbyes in the weekend papers this week in relation to the partial extension of Limerick City’s boundary, due to take effect on Friday night/Saturday morning.

The areas of Moyross, Cahirdavin, Coonagh, Shanabooly, and Clondrinagh, will be liberated from the iron grip of Limerick County Council

Welcoming the areas into the city, Mayor Ger Fahey acknowledged the contributions of Minister for the environment John Gormley, as well as John Fitzgerald and Limerick County Council in the move to extend the boundary.

He also pointed out that this is the first change in the boundary in 58 years.

Chair of Limerick County Council thanked those people now being taken over by the City Council for their support and co-operation during their time as residents in County Limerick.

The county Council are also reminding those new city citizens that if they owe the County Council money, the County Council are going to come looking for it if it is not paid.

Rents and planning applications will now be dealt with by the City Council for these areas.

FAI payout: No amount of money will be able to replace the loss of a son. That is the view of the mother of 10 year old Andrew Fitzgerald, who was killed after a freak incident when a gust of wind blew a goalpost on top of him. Miriam Gallagher told the Limerick Leader that while she was pleased the Football Association of Ireland accepted responsibility for the incident, no amount of money will replace her son. Andrew’s parents have, since the incident which took place in August 2004, participated in committees aiming to make playing fields safer for kids.

The Spike: City Councillors are voicing opposition to plans to move St. Augustinians school for troubled children from it’s current location to the site of the former Garda club on Sexton Street. Among the reasons being given is the fact that levels of traffic on the one-way street would make the location unsafe for children.

Water Water everywhere: but not a drop to drink on Marian Avenue in Janesboro. The street, which has many elderly residents, has been without proper water services for the past month.

Leaplings party at Trinity Rooms

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

If your a leapling and want to party like it’s February twenty-nine, then Trinity Rooms is aparantly the best place to be this Friday.

2FM disc-jockey Will Leahy will be spinning the wheels in a groovy kinda way that them young people do. Mr. Leahy doesn’t do club djing very often, the last time he did it was for the Telethon in October.

The blurb is below:

In the 21st century everybody is short on time, schedules and deadlines mean that time is in short supply. So when an extra night is parachuted into our laps by virtue of lunar misalignment, what better way to spend your evening than having a party!

To celebrate the day “which come but once in 4″, 2fm’s Will Leahy has got together with Trinity Rooms to throw a huge Leap Year Party across all 3 rooms of the Limerick city centre venue. With the event officially sanctioned by no less an authority than the www.leapyearparty.com website, Trinity Rooms Joe Clarke said “When Will suggested a party to mark Leap year and we realised it wouldn’t fall on a friday for another 29 years, we just knew we had throw the party of the “Leap” Year!”

Host of the the daily “Will Leahy Show” on 2fm from 5 pm each weekday, Will gets the nation home with a smile on their faces and a song in their hearts and he was also the host of the seminal 80’s night which took place every Friday for 5 years at the old George Hotel in Limerick.

Although retired from nightclub dj’ing he came out of retirement for a Telethon Fundraiser Party at Trinity Rooms back in October unleashing a soundtrack that swung from Queen to Sharon Shannon via the Sissors Sisters and Abba and rocked the 300 year old Granary Building to it’s very foundations.

This time out he promises to unleash even more classics “Party tunes from the 80’s right up till now will be the order of the day, songs with words to make you dance, the way a party should be!” said Will this week, “I normally stay indoors on leap year days to avoid all the marriage proposals but this time i’ll take a chance!”

Joining Will in the proposal friendly main room will be Trinity Rooms own Jay-J who hosts the Friday Party mix on Will’s show and in Trinity 2 Dj Erick will be dropping the finest in hip hop beats with that special feel good factor. The party kicks off in the Clubhouse Bar from 9pm with Special Leap Cocktails for early arrivals with admission a very reasonable free before 11pm and just €8 with concession afterwards for the bonus party of the next 4 years! And of course anyone who was born on the 29th February “A leapling” is free in all night long!
