I suppose I should write some sort of acceptance speech

I’m pretty shit at speeches really. so here goes

A thank you should go to those who write and moderate comments on the site. I won’t name any of them as I don’t know which of them wish to remain incognito, but they know who they are nonetheless.

Thanks also to our hosts, blacknight, who should get an award for having the most contrary customer.

Thanks to the folks at the Limerick Leader who have been supportive of all local bloggers.

And thanks to damien and all involved in organising the awards.

We tend to be the first to try stuff in Limerick, it might not always work, but we are always willing to jump in and give it a go. The oldest surviving newspaper is based right here in the city, the Limerick Chronical, and we were the first in the country to run trans-atlantic flights in the country right here in Foynes. Limerick was also the first place to have Ireland’s first full time satelite channel, way back in the 1990s, long before the likes of Tara TV, Setanta and bubble hits.

I would hope to be involved in many more firsts in Limerick. Already we have carried out experinments with subtitling video for the hard of hearing, Impact Theatres’s “Problem Child should be availible with captions this week, and am also playing with the idea of breaking news updates being sent to mobile phone subscribers through twitter.

Anyway, these and other ideas will be explored in the coming year.

Also a congratulatory note to the Italian Foodies, who won best food and drink award tonight.
