The likes of Kate and her ilk belong to the era of Hitler and history has proven how far wrong the Racists and the haters are. Yes there are problems with foreign nationals taking advantage of the system. But to object to some one because of the colour of their skin is fundamentally wrong. That's what the term Racist is there for. Hazel has some old fashioned views and I believe can't communicate exactly what Hazel believes without drawing objection. But Kate's 'Movement to Save Ireland ' is so flawed they need to get back to the drawing board.
Like Roisin I have far closer to home concerns to deal with than getting drawn into a combat 18 hate filled agenda. There were loopholes in our Justice System that were overwhelmingly taken advantage of and this has been rectified hence the drop in statistics for refugee status. But there are those far closer to home that take daily advantage of our Social Welfare System and they are Irish through and through.

Hazel,
I truly don't want to get into an argument with you but the things you and I worry about are different. Every human being, no matter their race, colour or creed, has faults and failings. I lived abroad for nearly 20 years, in various countries. I judged people abroad by the same measure as I judged them now and they judge me. Are they kind? Are they nice to their kids and their parents? Would I trust my child to them? Do they trust me to care for their child? Would I trust them with a secret? Would I wake them in the middle of the night if trouble came to my door?
I know that many coming to Ireland from abroad are economic migrants but I cannot see what is wrong with wanting more for your family, wanting to be living beyond the breadline, wanting a good education for your children. They are not taking jobs from me or from anyone I know, though if the promised fall from economic grace really comes, that will change. Those who are not allowed to work visibly deteriorate. Not all of them are saints.
I wanted more, not so much financially, but work wise and experience wise and went abroad for it and was so glad to see that sooner or later, barriers broke down, and I got the salute on the street, on the bus, in the shops and eventually got beyond people's doors carrying my soda bread which they ate though they thought it weird at first and was glad to bring their plastic containers of their stuff home and before long learned to relish it. We're all just people.
I fear for my kids on the streets now and in the centre of the town where I live. I fear the packs of kids and youth who, even in daylight, taunt other races, and taunt fat kids and Traveller kids and taunt anyone who is different and eff and blind and seem permanently half cut or half high. I see Irish people turning a blind eye to bad manners and open racism and hatred because they are afraid of retaliation. We are shit scared to be honest. And you don't even want to know the language routinely used to women and girls. And often used by girls themselves because to run with the pack, you have to observe pack rules.
The kids doing this are Irish kids. The immigrant kids are so ostracised that they would not be allowed into these groups in the same way that Traveller kids are not and have their own groups. In time this ostracization will cause problems and the immigrants will have their own gangs. Which is why there has to be assimilation now and yes, as people on this site have mentioned, immigration should take place in a planned manner.
I always get a kick out of seeing how kids do not see 'colour'. They don't 'know' racism. We teach it to them. Someone taught it to us. We can unlearn it. As to what can be done about the growing numbers of Irish kids who fear neither God nor man nor parent nor Guard nor court nor jail, I don't have a clue but I suspect that the grown ups need to start taking the well being of the country, be it politically, environmentally or whatever, a bit more seriously. There are the most incredibly good people around who volunteer and raise money for charities and hospices and bring kids from Belarus for breaks in the summer. You'd see busy mothers of four and five who foster kids and go the extra mile on a regular basis. But there is a growing underclass of those who did not get educated, did not get the help they needed, had parents maybe who were never properly parented themselves. There is such a crisis in this country. The old cliche. But, only one thing I know for sure - the immigrants are not causing it.

Kate
You say "miscegenation is a crime against humanity". Clearly, it is not. Thus, you are coming out with a well-worn cliche (among anti- immigratiuon groups anyhow as the average man-in-the-pub does not use works like "miscegenation"). Well-worn cliches, likewise, are not a crime against humanity, but they are a stock-response. And I don't think it does anybody any good to speak in stock responses.
Immigration is here and destined to continue - being in the EU ensures that. So isn't it best to accept it gracefully. There are advantages to foreigners living here, really Kate, and wouldn't it be better fo you to focus on those rather than being bitter. Because being bitter makes you a not-very-nice person.

This is what gets you in the soup hazel, your sweeping generalisations. not all economic migrants are worthless pieces of shit. there are worthless pieces of shit in e very walk of life. Have a look at what some of the natives have done to this city over the past 30 or so years.

@Hazel

Those at knockalsheen and the likes of those places are prevented by law from working, which is why they do not work.

Also, if you have no problem with non white people who work hard, then you would be in disagreement with MSI as it's aim is to rid the country of all non-white people, regardless of whether they work or not.

As for the rest, what evidence do you have that all those non irish people giving birth at the maternity are asylum seekers.

This is the problem I have with your views hazel, you confuse the non irish working person with the asylum seeker.

By the way, there is a difference between an economic migrant and an assylum seeker. An economic migrant will travel from one country to the other in the pursuit of prosperity, Like you yourself did hazel, yes, you are an economic migrant as you left Ireland to seek out your fortune.

An assylum seeker is a person who leaves their home country out of fear for their safety.

The latter is forbidden in irish law from working.

Kate,
What Ireland most needs saving from are the beliefs of people like you and your cohorts. Do I fear you? Yes! And there is no shame in fearing you because of the frightening things that you represent. Fear of you is a badge of honour. Only bullies are proud to have people fearful of them. In your one post, you proved exactly what you are. I am sorry that your life has somehow been so blighted that you have (a) such a racist views and (b) the arrogance to assume that you and your 'movement' know what is best for humanity.
