Media Roundup 10.3.08

A man is in hospital after an incident at Quilty’s Public House on Sexton Street North last night. Eyewitnesses told members of the media that a man walked into the bar and pointed a sawn off shotgun at a number of customers. He was eventually intercepted by four customers and disarmed. The man was taken into custody by Gardai and brought to the midwestern regional hospital. The shotgun was also recovered. The Leader has more

Objections raised by a parish priest to the presence of a magic show at a fund-raising event seems to have had an opposite effect to the one which he intended. The talent show was held in Dooradoyle by students of the Crescent Comprehensive, and after comments by Terence O’Connel, curate of St. Patrick’s Parish, the show saw a packed attendence, including several members of the cloth. One priest who is quoted in the Limerick Leader apologised for any distress caused by the controversy, and prior to the show, the Bishop of Limerick wished all the performers the best of luck. The show raised nearly €6,000, which will be used to send young helpers on a pilgrimage to Lourdes later in the year.

It is irrelevant where this guy is from. People should get away from this inferiority about where they're from. I never tell anyone where I live unless it's relevant.

Pat, I mentioned where this man was from but it was deleted. I agree with you totally but i suppose there are rules and we have to stick to them.

Just a quick clarificiation. Fr O Connell is not parish priest to St Patricks Parish. He is a curate in the parish however. Also I do beleive Fr O Connell was expressing his own personal views and not that of the parish.
