13 year old was wearing bullet proof vest

A 13 year old found driving a car last night by Gardai was wearing a bullet proof vest and armed with a knife on the Island Road in the City.

Gardai released the youth into the custody of adults.

Meanwhile, two other teenagers were arrested at 1000 hrs this morning after a gun attack in St.Mary’s Park at 0600 hrs.

The two men are being questioned under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act as part of Garda investigations into the shooting incident.

No one was injured on the attack on the house.

Its a case of monkey see monkey do, he doesnt know any better was never thought wrong from right. I agree with anonymous I think his "gaurdian" should be charged - parents/gaurdians need to start taking responsibility, hit them where it hurts in the pocket. He hasnt got a hope in life.....

    Anonymous1, do you have kids?

    Thinking about it before posting:
Ah, stupid me, I'm expecting a normal family/guardian but we are dealing with an apparently dysfunctional family. So above question doesn't aplly here...

    You're actually right!
  • Anonymous1
How is it that this kids "guardian" cannot be arrested? surely if he was released in to "the custody of his guardian" this means this person was supposed to be responsible for him and keep him at home. I thoroughly believe the guardian should be charged for this. It should be a crime to not be able to control your child, if he couldnt control him he shouldnt have been released back into his custody !!

Its an absolute disgrace and will be forgotten about, somebody would have had to have died before this would have been taken as seriously as it should be.
  • tiny'stears
where is the kid now back with his caring parents or was the 2 alleged offence enough to get him taken off the streets
  • shan
Nobody surely is that surprised really tell the truth. Most of these kids are lunatics there parents have been there and done that so its natural to them.
This kind of behaviour is everyday life for them it doesn't surprise me a bit. What does is everyone reaction. It is horrific I have a thirteen year old and there is no way I would even entertain the surroundings in which half of these kids grow up in. These Estates are the Irish Ghettos how many headlines does it take for people to believe that there is a problem?

Bock: I know I meant in the past before you could officially live off the land or the dole whatever its called now.I cant get my head around this one! the combination of assinine stupidity on the parents part the total disregard for authority the fact that the gardi cant seem to contain or stop this.

Its like a steven segal movie if you were reading this as a script you'd say aw fuck off thats just stupid shit, next they will be taking arm at the armed gardi and leaving the estate on horse back.

I just read in a newspaper article that this is the same lad that did the shooting in St Mary's Park that morning. He was brought home by the guards at around 1am and then left out by his so called parents to carry out the shooting at 6am, unbelievable.
  • BockTheRobber
Shannaboley: I don't know if I'd call these people "working class" without knowing if they actually work.

    AND THERES MORE...

    From the Independent
'Heavily drugged' boy (14) in gun attack on home

A 14-YEAR-OLD drugged-up boy is understood to have carried out a gun attack on a family home in Limerick, less than three hours after he was arrested and released by gardai for driving a stolen car while wearing a bullet proof vest and armed with a knife.

The schoolboy, who is barely 4ft tall, was arrested again yesterday morning and gardai recovered a sawn-off shotgun.

Gardai believe the teen carried out the gun attack with an 18-year-old on the family home in St Munchin's Street, St Mary's Park at 6.15am. The culprits opened fire at the home before the gun jammed and they fled on foot from the scene while the Emergency Response Unit patrolled the estate.

Last week, Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy deployed the ERU into the city's flashpoint areas after a man armed with a machine gun opened fire on six homes in St Mary's Park.

The ERU arrived at the weekend but there has been no let up in the gun crime.

A well-informed source indicated that both teens involved in the latest shooting were heavily drugged-up.

Nobody was injured in the attack and it is understood that the same home was shot at last month.

Both were arrested at 10am and taken to separate garda stations. The sawn-off shotgun used in the attack was recovered from a garden in the estate.

Yesterday evening one of the teens was released and was back outside the same house taunting a woman living there.

Before the gun attack -- the third in the estate in a week -- the 14-year-old was arrested when he was stopped driving a stolen car on Island Road in St Mary's Park at 1.30am. He was wearing a bullet proof vest at the time and a knife was also recovered from the vehicle.

At 3.30am, he was released into the custody of his guardian.

However, less than three hours later, he was standing outside the family home armed with a shotgun and opened fire.

The whole series of events came less than a day after more than 60 gardai recovered heroin and cocaine worth almost €100,000, a sawn-off rifle and a quantity of ammunition.

Last Sunday, a widow's home was targeted. She had to be hospitalised after the incident and was treated for shock and trauma.

Kids from the Island never cease to amaze me, and with respect to people, St. Mary's Park is on an Island yes, King's Island. I went to St. Mary's school over Forty years ago. Of Course there were some very respectable chaps in my class, but there were also scum bags in my class and school.
Where have most of the scum bags gone to now, either they committed suicide, been murdered, Lord rest them, or spent most of there lives in and out of prison. I can now see the same thing happening to kids who aren't "controlled" by their parents. There is a fine example of that little fecker who was caught driving a car in a bullet proof vest. I blame his parents' negligence. They should not be allowed to take care of him or any kids if they don't accept responsibility for their upbringing. The kids should be put into foster care. I have seen wayward kids grow up, well educated and well able to look after themselves and others after foster care.
    Sincerely,
    Johnny.
    P.S.,
I was bullied in school from the age of 4 'till 7, by most of the bastards I wrote of earlier.

tbh shanna i cant even think of a place in america with a similar sized population where this kind of sh.t happens as often and right in front of gardai armed with uzis too
  • Big shout out to my homies in Moyross!
  • Northsidelass
THUG, your name says it all!!!!!!
  • cd rom
it s true shanna, that kind of crap is 'normal' in poverty stricken over neglected societies, like black, or even brazian getthos where ppl get up in the morning and dont know wehere their next meal is coming from, but in ireland even the poorest communities adn elements are supposrted by a social welfare system that is not the least genorous in the world.
(Check it out any dole addicts here that think otherwise).

But whats the problem thne, why do ppl turn to this kind of lifestyle? worse still why do they let or involve their children in it. Theres no 'reason for it in this country in this day and age, there may be excuses but someone has to take responsiblity. That kid didnt find that lead vest in a kinder egg.

is it possible that the ppl involved are so IGNORANT and BRAINLESSLY STUPID not to mention shortsighted that theyre destroying any hope for a decent future in thier own community and for their young? On the evidence so far it seems they are.

I have to say I find this deeply disturbing, a thirteen year old child! I read about this on a daily basics here in the US, all of our major cities have this problem kids in gangs with guns, the system failing them? no future but Death at an early age or worse still in their opinion jail.Fathers themselves at 15 and 16 repeating the cycle uneducated unloved neglected souls! but this is america and they are usually black kids, children born into no opportunity no way out living in the getto.Has Limerick come to that now has the Celtic tiger that have given so much disposable income given disposable kids as well.
There was a time when living in the island field only meant you were working class! you might have had the old horse or two, your big brother might have been rock hard and your father would have been a big drinker.Your mom would have gotten the hair set every fortnight or so and your sister may have been a fine bird all the same.At thirteen you would'nt be long past the confirmation mad into girls and generally thought your parents were embarassing! because they were. But now at thirteen in the island field you drive a car and wear body armour.I think I find it so disturbing because I myself came from a working class home a wonderfully disfunctional family at best.I went to school with tons of kids from the island! good good people. The goverment needs to step up the services it offers kids in these areas you need a better system in place for tracking kids that are not in school .

What could the Gardai have done with him? If the 13 year old had been passed to social services, is there any age-suitable facility for him to be kept in - or would it be a place that would just further brutalise him? They take kids of his age who are at risk and try to place them in foster families until family problems can be worked out but who would want this little blighter? The whole system has broken down for these young ones; their parents are beyond redemption and the big news, from their point of view, is that armed gardai will now be a big threat to their family units and to their way of making money. What will it take before we realise that the answer calls for not only the courts to get their acts together, as Squid mentioned, but also for the involvement of the army and tough educators. We might shrink from the priest's call for internment but the man walks those streets and witnesses first hand what is going on.

Was he released into the custody of the same adults who (a) let a 13 year old out at 6am wearing a bullet proof vest for a leisurely drive or (b) didn't even know he was out at 6am wearing a bullet proof vest. Those adults should have been arrested as well.
  • dildo ball_baggins
instant hero statys, bet he gets grounded by his folks tho, for getting caught!

Gardai released the youth into the custody of adults.

  • jimbob
he wants ta be a 'gansta'? then treat him like one! lock the little shitbag up with the rest of them.

Someday a real rain will come and wash all this scum off the streets. ...
  • Shannaboley
Would they be the same adults that allowed there 13 year old to drive? and wear a bullet proof vest while armed with a knife?
Thats just crazy shit! Can anyone say Child abuse. child endangerment. child neglect. Solicitation of a child to commit crime! I am just talking about the system that released him .
  • arse_over_tits
Im trying to mentally draw the parallel between my mothers continual nagging to put on a jacket when i was ~13 and heading out into the cold, and this young mans parents telling him to "put on your bullet proof vest and youve forgotten your knife again"
  • Hoof
"released into the custody of adults".....would these adults be related to him?

The little bollix is armed with a knife and he's released !! As for his bulletproof vest, did anyone ask or find out who gave it to him? Enquire as to why they are in possesion of such gear and handing it out to 13-year-olds? These guys invariably claim what their sole "hobbies and interests" are, I just wonder how a bulletproof vest comes in useful when you're kicked by a horse or shit on by a racing pigeon ?
  • blah blah blah
A 13 year old wearing a bullet proof vest, armed and driving a car.WTF is this city coming to?
