6 Poles in court following fatal brawl

Six Polish nationals were this week before the District Court in relation to a brawl last year which left one of their countrymen dead.

Mateusz Sabik died eight days after an incident on Ellen Street last September involving as many as twenty foreign nationals.

A seventh foreign national Stanislov Stokowski, with an address of Shannonvale, Old Cratloe Road, has already been charged with violent disorder and causing harm to Mr. Sabik, and his case is ongoing.

The six before the court this week were Leszek Dryjanski (24) 209 Mahon House, William Street, and Dominik Tedorowicz (24) Woodhaven, Castletroy. The other four, Krzysztok Grenda, (35) Krystian Mvukowicz, (23) Bartosz Novak (22) and Premyslak Tim (23) all had addresses at The Park, Lord Edward Street.

Adjourning the case for mention to May 14, Judge Tom O’Donnell reserved the right to refuse juristiction and requested that a Polish translator be present on that date.

very wel put indeed. i have been all over the world and i have met a lot of tough guys and women and seen many things happen that disgusted me but the scum thats around now have shocked me to the core. they have nothing going for them . at .east the guys i met in the various plces i lived all worked it was rare that one of them would hit an elderly person or a woman. and you knew where they were coming from. in fact i never saw any of these guys hit a woman or an elderly person. they also had basic manners. loved kids and would never sell drugs. i was chatting to a retired detective last week and he told me you could talk to the crooks before but theirs no talking to these guys.

corkman, i happened to know that chap who was killed walking home from the match. He was stabbed in the neck with a broken bottle by local scumbags who wanted to take his few cans from him. He could have knocked the crap out of any of them but because theyre scum they attack in numbers AND use weapons.
At no point did they seem to consider that 'hey, its just a few cans, he paid for them'. Instead, as is the way of a mindless phsycopath, they decided they wanted the cans and to use violent means to get them with ZERO regard to the life of the victim.

I also happen to know the family of the young polish guy kicked unconcious (he died a few days later, not at the scene). He was attacked becasue he was from a rival soccer town to the other polish guys. That was their motivation along with the joy of unleashing violence on another person.

I have anther friend how lost an eye having been attacked in limerick outside his own house one afternoon, by a gang of local scum also trying to rob him of a few cans of beer. Ironically (or moronically) they actualy used their own (un-opend) beer bottles as weapons in the attack, throwning them and also breaking them to stab another friend who was with him.

The one thing the 3 victims have in common with each other is that they were/are all decent, friendly, good natured guys who didnt deserve to be attacked in the first place.

The fact that all the attackers in each case were possibly under the influence of alcohol will no doubt be used somewhere along the line as some sort of defence or attempted justification for their violence. Regardless of their 'motivations', one thing that the attackers do have in common is a clear propensity for unprovoked, phsycopathic violence.

Without going into a lecture on socio-phsycology (of which im not qualified in any way to do) its worth asking the question WHY are so manypeople like this. We can all get angry in a situation, and maybe loose control and lash out, but thats very different from repeatdly bashing, kicking or stabbing someone in an attack the victim didnt provoke in the first place.

One factor which plays very large is 'value systems'. Attitudes learned or inherited. Theres an almost culture of hatred, contempt and wanton disregard for other people amongst certain gangs and certain social groups. These attitudes are moulded into them form the earliest age and are never addressed or questioned by anyone (least of all themselves). Worse still they are often rewarded with praise or status within the group or faimilies that helped perpetrate them and those people will in turn pass that hatred and contempt on to the next generation.

?-Is it possible to unlearn attitudes of hatred, contempt, or that violence, robbery and criminal means are the best way to get what we want. I dont mean desperate people taking desperate measures either, but the culture thats out there which makes these forms acceptable to those people.

The levels of this that abound in this town alone are fairly shocking. I honestly cant think right now of one person i know who hasnt been the victim of some type of unprovoked assault in this town. I may remeber later but i could go thru a list of friends, workmates etc and off the top of my head name say 20 or so who have been attacked at some point and only one person who actually did deserve it.

Im starting to ramble a little but i just wanted to rasie a few of those issues.

im also really crap at typing.
  • dvdr
what? all i said was that was a meal fit for Jehova!

seriously tho, it was a loaded and yet unambigous statement partly to see if and what kind of response i would get. I actually have a polish girlfriend and lots of polish friends (along with other nationalisies, ethniticies) if you must know mr knee-jerk reactionary person.
I have to laugh when people like that jump on every little thing other people say. Fair enuogh if it was actually racist but come on. Its like you WANT it to be racist so badly so you can unleash your wrath filled PC-itis on the rest of us. THe blog will lose all credibility indeed. Spare us.

Knee jerk reactionaries, shur there you have it now, lol.

    that is a blatant lie

Three things that will get a comment removed

    Libel
    bigotry/racism
    sub judice.

There may be extraordinary cases where a comment is removed, but usually a reason is given.

Oh and the fact that it is a Sunday means that moderators are spending time with their families rather than sitting around approving comments immediately.
  • WHITEANGSTYSUBURBANTITEM
i stepped into this one a little late but for wha it worth the poles are hard workers well most of them are anyway i never seen so many comments up to 30 yet when theres any blog comments on limerick knac*ers the mods remove it!strange i have to say..

  • Nutboy
    Agree with Kimmy, well said.
  • CorkMan
Congratulations on becoming europes murder capital.
  • kimmy
    ok squid, i will amend my post, the meaning of my post was as follows;

regardless of nationality, 5 people are being accused of almost kicking another person to death, it doesn't matter where they are from or who they are.

If true, this is a sad fact of life, some people just have no value for human life.

    i agree marion.

    Removed by : squid

reason : prejudicial... just because someone is accused of a crime does not automatically make them guilty.
  • marion
nobody is saying that we shouldnt blog about a group of poles beating up a guy who died' what i am saying isthat theirs been a beef about the fact that they are polish. i repeat are we going to have 6000 poles in limerick and not have a few of them transgessing. it would be impossible.
  • Squid
    Due process hmmmm.

If you have something to say shan then come the hell out and fucking say it.
  • blah blah blah
daniel o connell said it better than anyone else(except martin luther king)not one drop of blood is worth all the land on this island...WE are people living on this island TOGETHER all of us...ALL OF US.....let the people shine bringing beautiful flavours..come one come all
  • shan
    Due process hmmmm.
  • RIYAD
Jesus lads so Limerick is now taking the " cream of the crop " of polish manhood - are we for real - 6,000 Poles in limerick almost 8% of the population of Limerick is not actually from Limerick - but god forbid we can say anything bad about this fact - say nothing and don't appear racist - the women are fine and the lads work hard...trouble ahead....
  • Squid
Because they are entitled to due process. they haven't been convicted of anything yet. that is irrespective of nationality.
  • the godfather
i agree marion.the irish were always fighting in new york too. i lived their and they were always at it.
  • shan
The story is how a group of Polish guys are being charged with beating another Polish guy to death. Irrespective of nationality this is an awful hate filled crime. However I would be of the opinion that if this was a group of Irish lads the cries of 'scum' would be deafening. So why can we not label these lads with the names we label on our own? Without the insinuation of everyone being held up as Rascists
  • marion
there must be at least 6000 polish people in limerick. is it realisistic to think we wouldnt have occasional fights even the odd serious one. we wil also have the odd rape the odd stealing offence. driving without insurance and drunk driving. i lived in london for 20 years and the irish were always fighting usually against each other. many irishmen committed murder and rape robbed people too. so i am surprised that people are so shocked. i think most poles are well behaved and the women are lovely. as are limerick women.
  • Angry Man
Thats true fair enough. it just makes me mad when I see people whi refuse to look for work and live off our hard earned money... its not fair and they are taking the piss out of the system is all.
  • Shannaboley
I agree the maker, we regularly knock our own and find it hard to knock others, we side step anything that may be judged as being racist or elitest.

I will say that here in the states an Irish guy will be hired over a polish guy on a job site, the polish guy may work faster but the irish fella will do it right the first time.
  • The Maker
"I know loads of Polish people and they are harder workers than the Irish let me tell you."

Why ,O why ,do Irish people put down Irish people and tiptoe around if it refers to non-Irish. Irish people do work very hard. Some don't, but hey, I bet you some poles don't either.

if you have feedback for the site tony g then use the email. further off topic comments will be removed.
  • Tony g
Indeed lette ,I might be overestimating this particular forum. Good job those bebo links are still up , I might find some more intelligent comments posted on there .
  • Mushy
Tony G you're like a trout rising to a fly or in this case a windup.
  • We understand that racist comments are not going to be alloud on this forum at any level, but unfortunately we cannot control each individuals interpretation of other peoples open comments that do not have actual slanderous, defamatory or obvious rasist commentary. if you took it that way, thats your problem, not ours. Please understand this in relation to all postings on here, thank you.
  • Tony g
So next time a local young fella is killed , it will be ok to say "southill eh ? typical " or " thats Limerick for you " or something similarly offensive ?
  • wanderingsodacake
Have I got this right, it was adjourned to allow for a translator to be present? Why is there not a translator on the courts books full time? There's plenty of qualified people around from the language side of thing. Some court terminology and procedural training can't be too hard to organise.
  • Angry Man
Its an insult in general to the poles by reading it wether it is meant or not. How many people come ont hsi site bitching and moaning trying to defend Limerick against slurs in the media or other comments made by posters. I know loads of Polish people and they are harder workers than the Irish let me tell you. I dont know any pole over here unemployed.. how many layabouts have we in this city alone scratching their arses while drinking our taxes?

And the women... the women..... :-)

Anyway we are losing sight of the topic here. A man is dead after a street fight. Again alcohol fueled madness.
  • Tony g: what's unintelligible about it? Its meaning seems pretty obvious.
  • Tony g
This site will lose all credibility if dvdrs comment isnt removed by the mods .
    Its not remotely intelligible .
