Corkman: The Hyde Road. That would be like The McCurtin Street and The Washington Street, would it?
  • Shannaboley
    lmao, good one .
  • John
Thanks for the valuable geography lesson people!

Any update on the story though?

hyde raod is a main road which see's a huge amount of trafic everyday including alot of cars city busses and yes even the profound bus to cork, so i wouldn't worrie about you on the bus altho you could lay down on the floor incase someone spots ya haha

I would like to say im apalled that the local media in galway are ignoring the problems in their theme park not a proper city and concentrating on hyping up Limericks. The editor of the local paper was going on about Moyross annd southill. He forgot to mention Castle Park galways own baghdad.I suppose its a bit rich to go on about the Hyde Road when the cork limerick bus also goes by the glen although it doesnt look so bad since they demolished the banjaxed flats. How come people ignore that Limericks technical population is due to an outdated boundry i mean an area the size of dooradoyle is not part of the census figures.

    Were any names publicly released?

Nah, Aston, they'd probably have shot the horse instead if that was the case. Make a nice byline for the Indo. tomorrow though, I'll call Jim Cusack who handles fiction at Beanbaron Central. Before you know it - it'll be true.

Thanks Corkman, whatever Galway did to you I'm sure you'll forgive them someday - after you're off our case presumably. Indeed you're right "The" Hyde Road, where I'm originally from, does sadly now play host to the city's most notorious drug gang....as of last week anyway....but I've yet to hear of them running out of their castle in order to halt an inter-city bus service, and unless there is a demand from passengers to stock up on heroin or cocaine for the journey I can't see why they'd be arsed with the bus or any other mode of transport on "The" Hyde Road.

As regards diverting such a bus via Dooradoyle, it would entail the bus having to go via Mallow St. Pery Square and O'Connell Avenue through to Punches X. A far longer journey with every chance of being caught in snarling traffic, and all this so that the message can then go out that Bus Éireann are avoiding "the" Hyde Road because they're afraid the Dumdums will throw these famous grenades you keep on about at the vehicle.

Personally I have no hangup with Cork so pardon my obvious lack of local geography. It's just the last time I came into the city from the Fermoy direction on the N8 I had to call at Riverstown first, then carry on through Glanmire via Glanmire Road and take a right turn at Dunkettle Crossroads which by some strange quirk took me into Cork City centre on Lower Glanmire Road which does indeed serve the Waterford road N25...as well as the N8 as far as the Little Island roundabout. But I bow to your expertise on the matter and will take the Old Youghal Road instead should the occasion arise for me to travel via Fermoy again from your fair and beautiful city.

    Yup Yup Yup!

Is there any truth in the rumour that the man shot was on horseback at the time?

I find Limerick to be much better city than Galway. The Hyde Road is a dangerous area and the home turf of one of the feuding factions.I think buses going to and from Cork should go through doradoyle and use the link road rather than going through the hyde road or carew park.I do think Limerick city centre is grand spot every city has crime but they are able to promote themselves as positive places to live and visit. When you think about it we dont go around throwing grenades at houses in cork.As i said Limerick is fine city but safer than cork no way.The glanmire road by the way is the direction you would go if your heading to waterford.

Agreed, Bling but this wummer is someone with a Limerick complex - one worthy of a job in the Independent as he trots out the same repetitive shite as Sir Anthony's limp organ time and again.

Corkboy, Next time you get the bus ask the driver what part of Rape Town he'll be going via - either Blarney or Glanmire Road, that way you can choose to avoid avoid looking at lowlife people who live in council estates. Unlike your noble self ..... on the bus.

Sometimes you can be to too much of a smartarse wummer - "The" Hyde Road, ffs! Look in your own backyard, or do your TD's - who defend the perpetrators of crime there - have you persuaded that you live in a crime-free zone. Why you bother to grace us with your presence at all remains a mystery, seeing as you obviously have a hatred bordering on the neurotic towards Limerick.
  • Shannaboley
I agree Bling, my dad was from that side of town and I have good memories of it. Corkman I dont think its the hyde road just hyde road, its not you take the hyde road and I'ii take the lowde road.
  • shan
I'm with you on that Bling its the usual as long as it doesn't happen on my doorstep brigade. Human beings of good social standing live and come from these areas.
  • Bling
This is kinda like saying "I wish the Cork bus wouldn't allow those black people onboard" I'm from Hyde Road and it has always been a bit rough but it has gotten much worse lately. I only wish that people who maje comments like this would try a little harder to avoiding sneeering at those who live in "undesirable areas" as it causes great upset and offence to us.
  • CorkMan
The drivers will either go through the roxborough or hyde road inwards and outwards. Some for some reason pick the hyde road.
  • rk
the cork bus comes in and goes out 2 different ways, and where the shootin took place is very close to where the body was found
  • Squid
The last time I got the cork bus it went past the Quality Hotel, up the side of tescos, through Kennedy Park , over the hump back bridge and into town.

    has this changed.
  • CorkMan
I wish the Cork bus would stop going down the Hyde Road.
  • meh, close enough i suppose. about 800 meters as the crow flies between them, id say.
  • 1916
Pat it is very close to were the body of J Cro... was found
  • Pat Johnston
    According to today's Irish Independent

"Yesterday's shooting took place close to where a 20-year-old man was found dead in a shallow grave earlier this month."

Somebody should send the Independent a map of Limerick city.
  • Rhebogue Ranter
They've got a really bad aim. If they're going to shoot each other they should be given target paractice lessons. Otherwise an innocent bystander could get hit.
  • goo
wouldnt it be easier if they stopped the car first..? just a thought.
  • Northsidelass
Is it connected to all the recent shootings?
  • x34
looks like all the weston boys have fallen out, then again
i dont know the full story yet. I know who was shot
    thats about it.
  • mary
    Hyde road closed.......
