GW Bush expected at Shannon over the weekend

Expect increased security at Shannon Airport this weekend as US president George W. Bush is expected to make a stopover at the airport over the weekend.

Bush will be returning from a NATO conference when he is due to land at Shannon.

According to the Irish Independent, the Defence Forces have been told to be on full alert at the airport for this stopover.

    Rosin is right.
He will be protected by his own securities people, the airport could have thousands outside protesting and he would be unaware lol he will be looking for little green people. No seriously he will be told the people of Ireland love you!
He most likely won't even greet and meet.
He will be in and out and you may not even be aware of it.

A few years ago Bush was diverted away from Shannon Airport because the Irish Defence Forces could not muster enough troops to mount a credible sercurity operation.

    Is that embarrassing?

    Anonymous,
Are you squeezing in a last April Fools joke? We couldn't protect our airports from a flock of geese let alone a Muslim terrorist or a Christian one or a Bush Baptist one! Even Mary Whatshername with her hatchet got through the 'cordon'. I'd imagine that when Bush is in Shannon the airport will be protected by American security and not by us.

A logistical nightmare and one that's certain to highlight Ireland's hand in a US made war. This 'trip' will cement the links of Shannon to countless deaths of others elsewhere. Hazels viewpoint on this one promotes a very real and present danger.

Christ some people will complain about anything. Hazel, Im sorry but your comment has to be one of the dumbest I have ever read. Do you honestly expect the government to stop Bush from even STOPPING OVER in Shannon in worry of an act of terrorism?
Can you imagine a bigger embarrassment for the country than having to tell the US that the President of their country cant stopover because we are so aware of how crap our defenses our that we cant take the chance of a terrorist attack for the whole hour he is in the country.....

Im sure the American government would look fondly on Ireland as we refuse their presedential plane the chance to refuel in the last stop before the Atlantic...while at the same time our ministers are over in the US trying to make a plea deal to have all longtime Irish Immigrants given legal status........

Come on Hazel, wake up and get a life.... if we cant protect our airports from terrorist attackers that is our issue and we neeed to look at it... not just deny anyone entry who may be seen as a possible threat.
Its people like you who would like to keep this country back in the 80's and you were probably one of those who bitched whe the Heathrow flights were taken from Shannon also....
You cant have your cake and eat it like......

And given the day that's in it, maybe good ol' Dubya could round up a few hosses out in the 'Ross place and head a trail to sort out dem pesky honchos over in D'Oil Land. Sort out those crazy critters and be home just in time to restart WWlll..."yeeeeeeeeeeeeehawwwww, WillieO, hold the stable door, Im coming through the house".

    Happy Birthday Georgie Boy.

I suppose GenaralissimO Dea, Ministerio de la Funnywalk will have to cancel his clinics and dress up in full uniform and medallions to welcome his Great Leader (Mk.ll).

Hope Dubya doesn't drop in while the last of the rugby supporters are trying to get over to the UK on saturday morning. If he comes in after the match he'd better hope Munster won. Feckin' security will be unbearable.

i think its more than the irish defence forces we need to make it safe
do the irish government realise the risk it is putting the irish people at by having bush at the airport
it wil take a nutty muslim extemist to cause carnage at shannon before they wake up
