Mumps outbreak: UL students advised to seek vaccine

Students at the University of Limerick are being advised to seek vaccination for the mumps after 18 cases of the disease have been reported in the midwest, a sizable portion of them at the University.

The last outbreak of the disease in UL was in 2000,

Those who have not received this vaccination can receive it through the Student Health Service at the university or from their local GP.

Great idea Dunno. I'm all for continuous assesments to replace exams.

Sporty, I probably am paranoid. I have that hate needles thing going on and have an inherent distrust of anyone who makes me get one when I feel there's nothinbg wrong with me. So much so that I still have the cert that they give everyone who gets the shot. There was old women rushing around to get water for me after the saw the colour my face went. ha ha

wanderingsodacake - I was in UL in 2005 and I certainly don't think anything fishy was going on then or now - there was plenty in the papers about it at the time and notices about it all over the campus. Two guys in my class had it and so we were all recommended to get the jab. The administration of the jabs was a very well run system, loads of nurses, very little waiting and a number to call for after-care etc etc. I think you're a little paranoid!

Soda - there was an outbreak in 2005, there were lots of vaccinations being offered then too. When I was filling in my med forms before I started in UL in September I talked to my GP, he told me there was no need for me to be vaccinated (I'm middle aged!!) that the chances were I had come in contact with the mumps.

And if you read the news reports, they are saying that it is a double vaccine - initial plus booster. So, I might be immune, in June by which time I'll be finished with UL.

Perhaps, out of a sense of responsibility, they should cancel the exams and give us the grades we've averaged so far in the subjects :o)

I find this annoying. In 2005 I went to thd UL doctor who told me there was an outbreak too and advised that I get the shot. If I wasn't sure that I had it before get it anyway to be on the safe side. I was told to bring two people with me and they then would get two each etc etc etc. Don't think it made the papers then.

Is there something fishy going on or is this possibly genuine?

and yes i believe men probably prefer their balls than women their ovaries anyway i suppose thats good news cause if mumps went ramant among the scumbags it would wipe them out completly still i suppose thats not an ideal world thats only science fiction hahah

By the way I am just kidding? giving men grief! whats rag week?
  • Trinity
There always seems to be an outbreak of mumps in UL after rag week for some reason!
  • Shannaboley
It can also make women sterile! the same viral condition that attacks the testicles can attack the ovaries. All though most people dont know that! maybe because men covet their balls more than women covet their ovaries.Surprising really cause ovaries or much bigger than balls.

jaysus that can make men sterile
pity some of the scumbags wouldnt catch it and it might solve both the in breeding and the chaos their off spring are causing
