Raining cats and dogs in the people’s park

From Sean “Tipp” Ryan

The Annual Happy Dog Sunday in the People’s Park in Limerick City is where I decided to go today, in my pocket my radio and it‘s earphones to keep in touch with Munster’s vital European Semi Final with Saracens in Coventry. It was raining as one would say “Cats and Dogs” a day more reminiscent from all those rain scenes in Angelas Ashes the movie.

It did not deter those dog lovers though and the supporters of the organisation. Limerick Animal Welfare deserve all the support they can get , Since it’s establishment in 1983 Limerick Animal Welfare has helped thousands of neglected animals and is a voluntary organization .It is currently involved in a sanctuary for animals in Kilfinane,Co.Limerick.

This is a major construction project .Limerick Animal Welfare currently spends approximately €30,000 per month in vets. kennel and food bills they now need to raise €70,000 to kit out the interior and fence-in the site for it’s new sanctuary .For more information http://www.limerickanimalwelfare.blogspot.com/ and limerickanimalwelfare.com

Roisín don't give dog food to a cat. Seriously.

...I lifted this from a veterinary site just in case you don't believe me:

Cats are obligate (strict) carnivores and are very different from dogs in their nutritional needs. What does it mean to be an ‘obligate carnivore’? It means that your cat was built by Mother Nature to get her nutritional needs met by the consumption of a large amount of animal-based proteins (meat) and derives much less nutritional support from plant-based proteins (grains). It means that cats lack specific metabolic (enzymatic) pathways and cannot utilize plant proteins as efficiently as animal proteins.

.....and well done for going to so much trouble to reunite that little terrier with its owner.

Lovely video - makes such a welcome change from all the bad news!
We found a little lost terrier yesterday (with no identity disc) but, with a lot of help from some very nice neighbours and by dint of going out to put up posters with doggie in tow, the lost one was reunited with his people who were out in the car doing one last search before dark and came across us at dusk. Of course, I couldn't quite stop myself giving out to them a bit for the no identity disc situation (does frequenting blogs make one crosser with everyone?) but, of course, it was a joyful ending with a couple of tears thrown in. I've two packets of Pedigree Chum over - don't suppose it would actually kill the cat?
