We did not dump fuel over land – Murray Air
A spokesperson for cargo contractor Murray Air has told RTE’s Liveline programme that one of their planes which made an emergency landing at Shannon Airport did not dump any fuel over land.
The Murray Air flight had just taken off from Shannon when the plane experienced a technical fault. Tracey Belle, director of administration for the company told Joe Duffy that the issue was caused by a “compressor stall.”
Ms Bell said that the stall resulted in the flamout which residents of Askeaton and Shannon witnessed as the aircraft was returning to Shannon at 2230 hrs on Friday.
She also stated that the aircraft hadn’t enough time to dump it’s fuel and made a heavy landing at the airport.
Ms Bell however became less fortright when questioned about what cargo the aircraft was carrying.
While the company has licensing to transport explosives as well as permission to land at Shannon, Ms Belle denied that there were explosives on the flight on this occasion.
The Air Accident Investigation unit of the Department of Transport are investigating the incident.
