Aer Lingus cashing in on Munster fans, months after shafting Midwest

Aer Lingus are offering flights from Shannon to Cardif to “facilitate” Munster rugby supporters attending the Heineken Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium.

Just months after Aer Lingus screwed the people of the Midwest by pulling the Shannon-Heathrow route, they are now offering flights to Cardif from Shannon on Saturday 23 May.

The price of a one-way ticket is a whopping €200, Returning to Shannon from Cardiff will cost you another €200.

The flight is now sold out.

Not to be out done, Ryanair raise the bar for ripping munster fans off, thanks to one of the fastest responses ever from Shane

  • Boycott Ryanair
Companies are structured to take as much as they can get away with but there’s a line that even most companies won’t cross – double crossing customers and selling their tickets. The people who took the gamble and purchased the tickets before Munster qualified for the final are now being screwed. Ryanair sold those peoples tickets and emailed them stating a refund or arriving after midnight instead of their scheduled 10am flight. This is a disgrace and because they have no customer loyalty Munster fans will not take the gamble in future and should all take the ferry next year. Stand up and fight as one action required for the greater good!

Lucky Aer Lingus didn't pull their Bristol flights from Shannon, then y'all would have some serious bitchin to do.
  • I agree...

Well done bock. Give yourself a pat on the back. You are sooooooooo clever!

Did the ferry prices go up for this particular weekend or is it just the airlines doing the ripping off? If people are willing to let themselves be ripped off, I have no sympathy for them. Fools and their money, etc. etc. etc.

willie o d’s long lost cuz and 1916.

Again, its their product and they are more than entitled to charge what they like. If some people here were runnign the country our economy would be in some mess.

You asked what should the Munster fans do stay at home? That is none of Ryanairs concern, they are not in business to specifically organise flights for teams. If you really were determined to go you would have booked your flights a long long time ago for lets say 50 quid and taken the hit if we did not qualify for the final. There will be what.. 50,000+ travelling to Cardiff.. how on earth are the flight organisers supposed to manage that.. if we get 200 on a plane (maybe more I am not sure) that means they would need 250 flights e/w so thats 500 flights... do you honestly think thats possible? And I reckon maybe more than 50k will be going.. more like 70k.

It was mentioned earlier we should be glad they are putting on extra flights as it is... if they could they would do more but they cant due to a lack of planes/take off and landing times/pilots/cabin staff/airport opening and closing times/taxis from the airports etc. Sure its not nice paying extra for flights but shur isnt it dearer to get a train to Dublin and back these days then a flight abroad?? Work that one out.

Again, Sky Sports, That is what they are in business for.. they pay to be able to show the matches and RTE sit back on their holes and allow foreign companies to buy up our international matches etc so if you are pointing a finger point it at RTE for not spending our money on somethign we want but rather on shockingly bad things like Fair City and Celebrity Fecking Jigs and Reels.

I agree with willie od l l c. and 1916 It's a bloody disgrace to charge such disgusting prices, but they aren't the only feckers cashing in on the game. Look at Sky sports, what about the people who only have the Irish channels? (Here come the publicans) For people to watch the game (those without Sky tv) they have to go to their local to watch it and spend money on drink to be able to stay and watch the game. Johnny Rotten.

Well put i totally agree , business is business but a line has to be drawn ~ i understand the flights are in huge demand but to increase prices 10 fold is appauling. MONEY GRABBING BAS***DS ~ should be ashamed of themselves

see..my take on this is this...Aer Lingus, when privatised had appointed people to make the airline into a money hungry business..fair enough if you privatise something thats what they do...this was all conceived by our politicians..
as part of this process the management appointed wanted to pull the Shannon slots..they let the DAA know, they let the government know and then worked away. However both the government and the DAA (who are also a state government agency) choose to do nothing about it..not even tell the SAA. Thats where the problem lies..the management in Aer Lingus are doing what they were appointed to do (and expected to do by their shareholders)
However our goverment and your "cuz" are the people that failed the mid west and they are the ones who deserve our hate and revenge..and they will forever feel that ..Never will FF, PD's or the Greens get a vote from me or my family again. I also still have my suspicions that this was done as part of the peace process crap but thats my theory. In that case the management of Aer Lingus were doing what they were told by the government..ie Bertie...and again in that case it is the politicians that should be punished..
Trust me I wont forget this come the Lisbon Treaty, the local elections next year or the next general election..The only thing most of us can do is punish them at the polls. Aer lingus is now a private company and that was the decision of our government at the time..they were the people who enabled ALL of the shannon thing to happen it is them that should be punished. Aer Lingus are now doing what they are supposed to ...make money for their share holders..which includes ..yes you guessed it...the politicians..
  • Supply and demand, basic rule of business. If they can fill their plane at €200 a ticket they're gonna charge that. It would be foolish not to!
  • willie o d's long lost cuz
I don't agree with must of the comments said. I am amazed with peoples short memories, have you forgotten what they did to us in shannon? what they are doing their employees now!!! there is business and just plain greed and thats what aer lingus and ryanair are about...they are completely taking advantage of the people..what should the fans stay at home? why should the fans not be allowed travel for a reasonable fair..aer lingus have become nothing but a money grabbing corporation and average irish people who agree with their polices should be ashamed of themselves.
  • rr
We should be glad of any extra flights to Shannon regardless of whether its aer lingus or whoever..passengers are passengers. And I also agree with the supply v's demand v's cost thing. Airlines are businesses..i dont see the problem with tnhis at all
  • BockTheRobber
I bought my flights before the Saracens game.
  • starkie
i have no sympathy for them, they could watch this match at home or in the pub.
  • Builderfromhell
I don't see anything wrong with this. Ryanair flights are very cheap at times when most people don't want to fly. For example this weekend or other holiday times. When demand is high prices go up. No demand- flights are cheap. It isn't a social service.
  • Squid
I have no issue with the ryanair thing, the gauling part is Aer Lingus doing it after what they did to the region back in January.
  • Angry Man
I can never see what peoples problems are on this??? If a company wants to charge X amount for a product and people are willing to pay then whats the problem?? If people cant afford it then thats their problem.. get the ferry like most of us. They are not ripping anyone off they are using these flights to make as much money as they can.. isn't that what being in business is all about??

No I have no affiliations with airlines or any means of transport for that matter :-)
  • To the point
Rubber dingy's cost about 100 euro might be a good investment.
  • RoryK
They were never gonna charge a normal rate of 50/60 euro return now were they.

As a wise man once said,
"You can charge way more for stuff when people really really want it, like."
