Smear campaign against FG councillor

Jaysus, local politics is fairly dirty, Between Fianna Fail councillors removing stuff from business premises without permission, Labour councillors throwing their rattlers out of the pram and leaving the party, and now someone sending out letters in an effort to ruin the future prospects of a Fine Gael Councillor in the City.

Letters, calling for the resignation of Fine Gael councillor Kevin Kiely, which were sent to the Limerick Leader newspaper are now the subject of a Garda investigation. One was said to be on headed paper from the City Council.

The official whose name was at the bottom of the letter denies sending the letter which looks as though it was designed to damage Cllr Kiely’s prospects of being elected Mayor in June.

Do Limerick a favour for once, Kevin, and don't try to represent us as Mayor.

kevin kiely is best friends with a very senior gardai in limerick, nothing wrong with that, you might say, well i dont think he should be over the policing board, he could not be impartial. as for his work as a councillor, well all he is is a windbag.

At this stage it is starting to look like the Limerick Leader is the city centre office of the "get Kevin Kiely relected" campaign. This is really one big non story.

It might be more interesting if the Limerick Leader asked Kevin Kiely why the crime situation in Limerick was allowed to deteriorate so bady in the last few years, at a time when he was sitting on the Limerick Policing Board?

What exactly did the Limerick Policing Board do during that period other than issue press releases?
