The senseless murder of Mr. Brendan McEvoy on June 19th, 2008, not only ended the life of this extraordinary man but wreaked despair and devastation upon the lives of many other innocents.

The commission of this diabolical action has forever robbed Mr. McEvoy’s mother, family, in-laws, extended family members and friends of his companionship, especially his young son who at the tender age of 3 years old is now fatherless. This young lad must now grow up without benefit of his father’s devotion, guidance and love.

Brendan McEvoy was a multi-faceted, multi-talented man. Possessing movie star good looks, an engaging personality with a charming wit, keen mind and a caring demeanor, Brendan was well loved by all that had the good fortune to know him.

Part Dr. Doolittle, part Pied Piper, part St. Francis, his congenial disposition was especially evidenced by legions of enchanted children and adoring pets who were forever captivated by the magic of his personality.

Mr. McEvoy was a gregarious world traveler. He reveled in every opportunity to explore new terrains and view new vistas. From his birthplace in the small town of Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow, Ireland, he broadened his horizons with ventures to the land down under of Australia, the Hawaiian Isles, California, Colorado, Texas, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and many other spectacular states within the USA onto the sunny beaches of Mexico, the Caribbean Islands and capital cities of Europe.

Mr. McEvoy was also a talented musician and singer, much in demand as the consummate entertainer. Brendan McEvoy was a headline performer at the annual North Texas Irish Festival put on by the Celtic Music Association during his many years of residence in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex.

Brendan McEvoy excelled in the world of business as well. Like scores of Irish before him, he came to America, the land of opportunity, seeking a chance to make his mark for a better life. He first gained employment as a construction laborer and quickly climbed the corporate ladder to head major commercial construction projects and manage prestigious accounts of the nations leading U.S. real estate developers and global titan U.S. and International Commercial and Retail Construction Companies such as the Henry C. Beck Company (HBC), the Trammell Crow Companies, and the Taubman Companies.

With the advent of the Celtic Tiger, Brendan returned to his native Ireland and was able to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a solicitor. He applied to and was accepted at the University of Limerick to study Law and European studies. Mr. McEvoy accomplished unprecedented achievement in his course of studies at University by sitting for five legal examinations at one time and passing all of them with exemplary marks.

Mr. McEvoy was due to return to University of Limerick in the autumn to complete his course of legal studies. Mr. McEvoy was only 1 exam away from achieving his dream of qualifying to become a licensed solicitor when it is alleged that David Byrnes entered Mr. McEvoy’s residence without permission in the early morning hours of June 19th, 2008, at about 5 A.M. and assaulted a sleeping Mr. McEvoy resulting in his death.

Friends and family flocked from near and far upon hearing the unbelievably tragic news. They came on planes from America, by boat from France, and journeyed from all around Ireland to join the celebration of Mr. McEvoy’s life this past weekend culminating with his funeral mass on Sunday the 22nd of June at his boyhood parish church of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Bagenalstown. Hundreds of mourners filled the church, lined the streets and the graveside ceremony at the Cemetery of the Assumption to pay their final respects and fond farewells to Brendan McEvoy-Super Star. May he rest in peace. May 13, 1958 – June 19, 2008

To live in hearts we leave behind…Is not to die.
~Thomas Campbell, Hallowed Ground

As long as there is memory, we will remember you.
Thank you for all the good times we had together.
Vaya con Dios, Brendan
Until we meet again…
Love always, Maureen

The Brendan I knew deserved better than this. He was a fine person, full of life, love, & laughter. He was smart & witty, as well as talented. Many lives are better for having known him.
It is beyond me how anyone could have done this to him.
He left many friends in the States. There was always the hope that he would return, at least for a visit. And now some evil person has now denied us that hope.
My heart goes out to his family & friends. May the Lord bless them & comfort them.

Brendan was a smart and caring man that will be missed by so many. Brendan always knew how to make you smile. What has happened to him is terrible and he leaves a young son that will never know his father because he is so young. This was a senseless murder. [removed ... prejudicial]
