Plans to inspect private jets at Shannon

Woohoo! I hear you say.

That is until you hear who will be doing the inspecting.

The US Department of Homeland Security are currently in negotiations with the Irish government with the intention of installing a permenent team to inspect private aircraft landing at Shannon en route to the United States.

So, we will now have a situation where suspicious US aircraft landing at Shannon can be searched by none other than the US authorities, while we turn a blind eye to possible rendition flights at one of our own airports.

so just because the americans are good to us we should allow them to invade other countries kill thousands of innocent people and torture suspects.. i cant see what they have really done for ireland. they only have their factories here because trhe are making money . the americans are hypocrits they only go into countries for oil and to get a foothold in those parts of the world. why dont they go into mug. abees country . no oil no money.

Mickey's mickey you have hemoroids about the americans, I wonder if they have refused you entry or something.Maybe he is referring to the american employing companies based in Ireland? The american dollars spent on tourism not to mention all the refueling costs spent on those flights in and out of shannon lol .I am just kidding btw.

I think it is a good thing after all where would we be without the americans . They have done an awful lot more for us than any of the eastern countries

It's kind of like letting 8 year olds mark their own homework. You can just imagine the negotiations though.
"Erm... howya Brad. Look... i...i...it's like this. Y'see we're - that is to say the public... heh heh... are a little worried that there's rendition flights going through Shannon. D'ya know? Would it be alright if we kind of... y'know.... ah.... inspected them?"
"No but we'll inspect them and tell you that everything's ok. How's that?"
"Oh sure that's grand. Ah... could you take d'oul electrodes of me bollix now?"

Well at least the Yanks are now saying that a 'dirty bomb' can be made with depleted uranium and that such a weapon is a 'weapon of mass destruction.'

They'll have fun trying to twist out of that particular admission in the Hague.

How many thousands of tonnes DU have they spread all over Iraq and Afghanistan at this stage?

A lot of this WMD material was shipped through Shannon too. With clearence.

The Hague will be very busy.
  • Rhebogue Ranter
It was also mentioned that they would inspect for "dirty" bombs. so they can be caught before they get to the USA.

so It's all good apart from the "dirty" bomb bit :)

I think the intention is to check the planes wanting to land in the US that are not US aircraft or US aircraft coming from countries not seen as friendly to the US! ok that would be everyone lol.Oh the paranoia!
