Success for Leanne Moore

Leanne Moore has reached number one in the Irish single charts with her debut single “on wings” so fair play to her on that bit of success. The song was released to help raise awareness of deaths caused on the roads as a result of speeding.

it was in reference to a comment i made here about a topic on another thread, i mistakenly posted it here as i had both threads open at the time. An easy mistake to make under the circumstances, and hardly one that warrants ppl peeing in their pants in reaction.
    curiosity satisfied now?

    :)

Forget it squid sorry i wasn't thinking.

Squid, what did boshgo say? that he thinks is worth repeating.

umm was there something particulary upsetting about my comment here that it hasnt been posted or is there some kind of censorship at work that goes beyond responsible censorship. i definately didnt say anything other than the truth about limerick.

    Hi Tom,
thanks for the info. on the charity. This makes my purchase feel more worth while!

I have to agree with some of the previous comments though. In Europe there are large electronic speed signs indicating your speed warning to slow down, before entering all german villages. If not heeded then a minute later an authomatic electronic speed camera nabs you , surely this would create better awareness in the practical sense and tax payers money better spent by the road authority.

How can a single that goes straight in at number one have limited stock???...I don't get that comment Tom?? ..
  • money was tight we sold all our stock in 3 weeks and did not have money to buy more

Straight out of the greg ryan school of opportunism with the usual safety net of ‘ah sure its for a good cause’.

HILARIOUS! So very true and all that gang are trying to get involved with Leeanne aswell its all for themselves not a cause, im sure there are some people involved that want to raise awareness but im sorry most of them are only out for themselves...IDIOTS.
  • Tom
The charity nominated for the proceeds of 'On Wings' was the Mid-Western ADD charity. The single itself had limited stock and was intended to raise awareness amongst young people, encouraging them to slow down on the roads. Like it or not its only intention was to be heard and hopefully heeded. Every little helps......

hmm, the song aside, there are more practical ways to stop death thru speeding on our roads.

Proper education to children about the danger of crossing the road for starters.

Only allowing ppl with more driving expirience to own cars with faster engines. Insurance being based on the type/speed of car.

Having a better system of roads, ie NOT building a relief road then plonking a great big shopping halfway up it causing it to become a permenant bottle neck. Such things delay and frustrate drivers causing them to speed to make up lost time.

pedestrian overpasses on busy roads in populated areas.

ENFORCING traffic and speeding laws rather than just handing out parking tickets.

and its not just speeding but DANGEROUS DRIVING and bad driving that casues many accidents and death. Tackle these ppl too.

btw GER the smoking ban worked because it was enforced, the plastic bag levy because we have to PAY for them. Now its time to actually et out and enforce driving regulations etc.

She sings too? And is trying to save lives? Just her smile is killing me! I don't even listen to "Pop", and have never seen "You're a Star". But, well, Wow! What a smile!

I am sure that the money's destination is written on the cover slieve of the record.

I think there's a good message in the song and fair dews to Leanne, she's very talented and appears to be a nice girl. I also think she is a good ambassador for Limerick and I'm all for charity work. In Cork recently, through the radio stations and local businesses, they have raised a lot of money for a local hospital - it's been all over the media and a lot of money was raised for the charity - when someone pledged money they knew exactly where it was going and the public were informed of the amount that was made. So, where is the money going when people buy 'on wings'? Is it actually going to a charity organisation or is its function to simply raise awareness? Considering it got number one, surely some charity would have benefitted greatly and as such, the amount etc should be publicised. But through all i've read about the single, no actual charity organisation has been named . . . just a question.
  • thank you for kind comment .
this is jamie bridgeman i wrote on wings it went to the add midwest support group thank you again

If you don't like a charity song then don't buy it, if it upsets you to such an extent then change the radio station when it comes on... it's as simple as that.

This is simply a person using her talent to aid a charity organization, nowhere are you being told that you have to buy this single. There are ads on the TV right now for well know charities that almost tell you that by not giving to them you are letting a child in some far off country die. There are no strings attached to this one, if you like the song or want to help the charity the buy it, if not then don't.

Personally I'd rather see Leanne Moore at No.1 that most of the crap that's been shoveled around at the moment... Dustin for example...

Agreed jimbob may have said it wrong, but he's right. Are you not sick of charity songs, people with average voices and images trying to "make it" the era of the wannabe is well and truly over and as for charity and trying to get messages across that begins at home and instilled from a young age.
  • kevin
for f*c sake JimJim, here is a young girl trying to do right and you knock her, have you actually listened to the words of that song, I didn't know any of the 2 girls that died but it was all over the papers so Im aware of the sad/tragic circumstances, listen to the words, its an excellent song, so sad every time I listen to it I fill up with tears, I also think Leanne Moore has a great voice and is a great talent and will go far.

do you not think she done this song because maybe 1) she is a nice person, 2) thought the song was a good song, 3) probably knew the girls or their families and want to help in some way, I know when I listen to the song it make me aware of the tragedy that happened and what unnecessary circumanctances speeding can cause so YES straight away it can save Peoples lives,

as for your comment of causing accidents by turning the song off, WHATS THAT ABOUT, as I said its a great song, it went to number 1 in the charts so all those people that bought it cant be wrong

also Ger, id say you are very proud of your daughter as she comes across as being a really nice girl, a great talent and a great ambassador for Limerick

JimJim I know you are entitled to your opinion but negative comments like that do you no favours,it really shows your personality and outlook on life,

for those who haven't heard the song here is the link

Jimbob, if only one person decides to slow down on our roads then it will be more of a success than all the Government backed campaigns have been so far. Jamie Bridgeman the young lad (16) who wrote it lost two cousins of 15 years of age through speeding, and hopes that other families do not suffer the pain his did and still are. Leanne is the CATALYST, being in the public eye recently, by which he, the Chief Garda Commissioner and the Road Safety Authority hope to achieve this. Irritating as it may be to you, someone just might take heed. As a cynic can you see sanctimony in that?? Would you be one also saying the smoking ban has not worked, when figures show it has had an effect, or the introduction of plastic bag charges has not reduced our over use and disgarding of them??? Anything that will help reduce the carnage on our roads is worth a try, thank God we are not all so cynical. I do not know who you are, but I am the one who was approached, and having heard the story behind it, got Leanne to record "ON WINGS"
By the way I'm her DAD!!! call me sanctimonious if you like!!!!!
  • CorkMan
    @jimjob

lol lol lol You Limerick folk have a great sense of humour.
  • jimbob
Straight out of the greg ryan school of opportunism with the usual safety net of 'ah sure its for a good cause'. Excuse me for my likely unpopular oppinion but i fail to see how its going to save ANY lives.

indeed a less cynical person might see sanctimony and an opportunity to get back in the addictive spotlight. With the possible added irony that the song might actualy 'cause' more accidents as drivers reach franticaly to change the station everytime the irritating song comes on the radio.
  • jimbob this is jamie bridgeman i wrote on wings , i hope it might save lives it might it might not even to comfort some one i would be happy with i was 15 and pored my heart into that song , tell me some thing have you ever lost a member of your family like that have you ever been at the funeral of 2 young 15 year old girls just think about that and try having hope and stop compaining and try help
  • hazel
