Here is the blurb

Limerick Printmakers Studio and Gallery are delighted to present an exhibition of recent paintings by Enda O’Donoghue. This exhibition will open on the night of the 4th of September at 8pm.

Enda O’Donoghue is a Limerick born artist who has been living in Berlin since 2002. Originally O’Donoghue studied computer programming before he turned to a career in visual art. After completing his degree in fine art painting at the Limerick School of Art and Design, he went on to do a Masters in Interactive Media at the University of Limerick. He then stayed on at UL to work with the Interactive Design Centre and teach on the Interactive Media course.

Since moving to Berlin, O’Donoghue’s work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Notable examples include a recent solo show at the Galerie hunchentoot in central Berlin, the showcase exhibition for the 10th annual Berlin Kunstherbst festival, the Berliner Kunstsalon art fair, the Tease Art Fair in Cologne, the annual KiC NordArt exhibition in the north of Germany, at Overgaden the Institute for Contemporary Art in Copenhagen and closer to home at the Four Gallery in Dublin. In 2009 he will have an exhibition in New York at the Irish Arts Center in Manhattan.

The work in this exhibition comes from an ongoing series of paintings, which looks to the Internet as a source for photographic imagery. The images are then treated to a methodical process of transformation and translation to form O’Donoghue’s paintings. The images are all other people’s photographs; digitally found images. O’Donoghue describes the scenes that inhabit these paintings as “in-between” spaces. The viewer is presented with banal scenes from everyday places, photographed by people going about their daily lives, in such places as airports, train stations, waiting rooms or shopping queues.

All of the work in this exhibition has been produced in Berlin and this is the first time it has been shown in Ireland. Images of the paintings and further information can be found at the website: www.endaism.com

‘AFTER_JOEBLOGS’ will run at Limerick Printmakers Studio & Gallery from 4th September to 25th September. The gallery is open 11am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm Saturday. For further information please contact Limerick Printmakers. All are welcome. Admission is free.

Aer Lingus to screw Shannon … again

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Just over 12 months after Aer Lingus announced it would scrap the profitable Shannon-Heathrow route, there are now concerns that they plan on another kick in the teeth for the region by scrapping one of its trans-Atlantic routes, Shannon-Chicago.

Staff at the airport are being asked to attend a meeting on Thursday, and there are real fears that this route will be redirected to Dublin.

According to this morning’s Irish Examiner, Aer Lingus has already announced the reduction of its trans-Atlantic traffic by 15 percent to facilitate the refurbishment of their aircraft.  Shannon is set to take the brunt of these reductions by the loss of an aircraft based at the airport.

More from the Examiner.

More bad news on Limerick roads!

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

It has not been a good few weeks on the roads around the county with a number of fatalities and serious accidents.  Friday the 22nd of August will go down as a black friday on Limerick roads with two fatalites and a number of people seriously injured as a result of car crashes. In the early hours of Friday morning one man was killed and two seriously injured after an accident on the Rathkeale bypass.  Friday evening three people were injured, one seriously in an accident out in Mungret and later Friday night another fatality has occurred when a male driver was critically injured after a two car crash in  Ballingarry.  Emergency services are still at the scene and the road is currently closed.  That makes three fatalaties on Limerick roads in the last week, not a good statistic.

UPDATE SUNDAY NIGHT  . One of the men who was critically injured Friday at the accident on the Rathkeale bypass has now also died.  The two men who were Polish nationals were living in Castletroy

Charlotte Mulhall holds a knife to the throat of drugs offender Denis Givney

Convicted killer, Charlotte Mulhall has been moved to Limerick Prison after photographs of her holding a knife to a male inmates throat have become public.

Mulhall, along with her sister Linda, are serving time for killing Fareh Swaleh Noor whose dismembered remains were found in the Royal Canal in Dublin in 2005. The killing earned the two women the nickname “The Scissor Sisters.”

Some serious questions as to how a prisoner was allowed in possession of a knife and how male and female prisoners are allowed to socialise are being asked by opposition parties.

The man in the photograph, taken in the Kitchen at Mountjoy Prison, is drugs offender Denis Gibney, who was serving time up until July of this year. The picture is believed to have been taken with a mobile phone.

An investigation in to the circumstances surrounding the offending photograph is currently under way.

Earlier this month, Liam Keane was alleged to have been updating his bebo profile from behind bars
