I agree with Kevin, there has been no work on a monday in dell for the last 3 weeks because there is nothing to build but there has been over time during the week and weekend shift, were is the logic in that, leftwinger is that true or not, also how many people in Dell actually trained the people to do the same job in Poland, anyone that needed to be trained for the polish jobs WERE trained in Delll Limerick so again Kevin has a valid point, People in Dell were always aware that once poland was up and running they were out of jobs but they still trained them, they will have on-one to blame but themselves

"What’s wrong with polish working, they are willing and able,IMO they work harder than the rest of the Irish myself included here in my dept."

I have to say I am sick to death of people putting down the Irish worker. I almost left Ireland in ‘86 when things were much worse. I had my green card for the US, but stayed because I got a job in Galway. I paid over 60p in the pound and worked hard so all you young people could have jobs in Ireland today. I get pissed off when people say the Polish or some other non-nationals work harder than us .They don’t, it just seems that way because they are here to make money not to say and lay down roots. All people who go to other countries to work ,do work harder because they work longer. The Polish are now leaving in droves, either going home to their own Polish Tiger, or to other countries. It's time to say good bye to them and thank them for their help over the years. Some will say good riddens, others will say a pity. But whatever, it's now time to forget about work immigrants and try to bring home our Irish Diaspora in the states with all their skills and experience they have learned from abroad. Bet you the Polish government is doing the same for its Diaspora

if Dell does go, both dell employees and managemnet have a lot to answer for, Dell employees were very eager to train the polish people that will eventually take their jobs in poland. you reap what you sow, and Dell management were running 12 hours shifts and then sending the employees home during normal hours, this has made production cost in dell jump out of control, i mean were would you hear of this, stay back and do overtime for time and a half and then send them home on flat time. this wouldnt happen in any other factory. as for out politions they are putting their head in the sand and hoping it doesnt happen, whey dont they get off the fat ass's and ask the question so that they can plan for it if it does happen.....

Being a Dell employee I agree that there needs to be an announcement sooner rather that later , I cant see manufacturing been stopped completely here in Limerick for a few years yet , although there could be particular retail products outsourced to ODM's (original design manufactures ) in the near future , the same as HP has done a couple of years ago which may result in job loses here at the limerick plant which would be temp employees. HP started outsourcing there manufacturing 2 years ago and have just announced 24,800 job loses worldwide over the next 3 years.
Interesting enough Mike Cannon (the yank To the point mentioned) will be here in limerick next Tuesday , his previous job was CEO of a company which outsourced manufacturing from companies like HP so his background is in the field Dell are actively perusing (outsourcing manufacturing )
