Explosives believed to be for Limerick-based criminals
A south Limerick City gang is believed to be the buyer of a massive stash of explosives which were seized in Galway over the weekend.
The seizure was made as part of a European police operation to tackle organised crime. According to today’s Limerick Leader, over 200 guns were seized by police in Holland, which are understood to have been destined for the same gang.
The discovery of 17.5 Kg of industrial explosives was made after a car was intercepted by Gardai near Oranmore, County Galway on Friday.
Since then, one man has appeared in court in relation to the seizure.
30 year old Oliver Mannion, of Renville West, Oranmore was before a Galway court today charged with the unlawful possession of explosives.
An application for bail made by Mannion’s legal representative was rejected and he was remanded in custody until Friday, where he will appear at Harristown Court in Castlerea.
RTE reports that there are three other men in custody in relation to the seizure, none of which, have yet been charged.
