Newstalk comes to Limerick

Limerick received some positive spin from the national media last weekend when two of Newstalk 106-108’s most popular shows were broadcast from O’Connell Street in Limerick City on Thursday and Friday.

Sean Moncrief broadcast his afternoon show while George Hook broadcast the Right Hook drivetime show from Limerick City.

On Thursday, Hook interviewed the CEO of Limerick Regeneration Brendan Kenny, as well as Mayor of Limerick John Gilligan about the ongoing regeneration projects and the release of the latest Master Plans, due for release next Monday.

Willie O’Dea also made an appearance to discuss both local and national issues, including the introduction of armed Garda units in both Cork and Limerick.

The director of “Star Struck” Emma Teck.  The film, set in Moyross, tells the story of two young girls who are trying to gather enough money to attend a dance school in Cork.

Musical acts on the Moncrief show included the Limerick Jazz Quartet on Thursday, and the Elikya Congolese Gospel Choir on Friday.

Referring to the visit by the station to Limerick, Chief Executive, Elaine Gereghty said “We get tremendous feedback from Limerick and the Mid-West region, both in relation to our general news programming and our extensive sports coverage. This was a great opportunity for us to highlight, at national level, the tremendous work being done on the ground in Limerick.”
