[Video] Stab City debate at UL

Some video of Tuesday’s debate at UL discussing whether the “Stab City” slur given to Limerick is justified or not.

Speakers featured here are former Limerick City Mayor Diarmuid Scully, Midwest Correspondent from the Irish Independent, Communications Executive of the Limerick Co-ordination Office, and Colme Keena of the Irish Times.

The moderator is Mary Dundon of the Journalism department of UL, and was organised by the Debating Union in conjunction with the Journalism Society.

Update: a transcript is also available.

Scully has done the people of limerick proud. Boys.....can he speak well!! I hope some of the media who are hell bent on giving Limerick a bad name listen tto the debate!

That co-ordination office bird Laura is good, right pitch, no point being defensive all the time, work on the positives

scully switched sides when he wasnt nominated for mayoralty a few years ago, became independant, then when he got mayoralty he switched back to fine gae.l the man is shallow
  • colm
Scully is impressive. We haven't heard much from him in recent months since he lost out on a spot on the Fine Gael ticket in the general election. Glad to hear at the start that he is running again in next year's local election.
  • Manoelle
Great stuff delighted to see this debate. As a proud Limerick man I am not very objective but I found that the opposition only did what is always done and focused on a small portion of Limerick society which tarnishes us all with the same brush!
