[Competition] More Tales of Limerick by Dennis O’Shoughnessy

More Tales of Limerick is the second in a series of books of short stories from Limerick’s past, from the famous people who visited Limerick, right down to what Limerick people say to each other or even ate in the days of your.

After retiring from the Limerick Leader a decade ago, O’Shoughnessey has written a total of seven books about Limerick’s past.

From the author

Diversity is one of the attractions of More Tales of Limerick with 32 stories ranging from a collection of 500 nicknames of Limerick people down the years, some of them deliciously derogatory, to famous quotes of Limerick rugby players, to the hidden history of the appalling executions of English residents in the city in 1642. Read abut the year (1970) when the city, fearful of a Communist take-over, rose up against the young Maoists; when the GAA were castigated for their boycott of the Tostal Parade in 1953, and the day the literary luminary Robert Graves got his comeuppance in a local hostelry. These are but a flavour of what to expect in what could possibly be O’Shaughnessy’s best book on Limerick.

Those wishing to buy the book can do so at most bookshops. You can buy the book online by clicking here.

Gremlins eradicated, I finally got the full video up

Dennis has kindly given us two signed copies of his book to give away. Because of the problems with the video, I have to change the question. Those who sent in answers already will be included in the draw at the end of the contest.

The question is:

What is name of the area in Limerick City shown in the cover of Denis O’Shaughnessy’s new book, More Tales of Limerick?

You can send your answer, along with your name and location to editors@limerickblogger.org

The closing date for the contest is 2359 hrs on Wednesday, 10th December. The winners will be picked at random by computer. The winners will be the only ones asked for their address so that we can send them their prize.

  • BTW The research on that story by Denis is excellent. Enjoyable book.
  • The bookshop was run by Maoists.
