It’s handbags at the ready in yet another Fianna Fail Feud

And so begins yet another conflageration within the Fianna Fail Party, or so it is reported in the County Edition of the Limerick Leader tomorrow.

The whole thing kicked off this week when Limerick County Councillor, Noreen Ryan, wrote to the Taoiseach Brian Cowan calling for him to sack Minister for Defence, Willie O’Dea.

The call comes after it emerged this week that the Defence Minister, during his tennure as Junior Minister for Justice, facilitated representations on behalf of 29 prisoners, including a murder suspect and a number of drug dealers.   He himself says he was simply relaying requests from the families of the prisoners.

He made representations on behalf of one drug dealer seeking temporary release for Christmas and another who was seeking the same so that he could get married.

In her letter to the Taoiseach, as revealed by the paper tomorrow, Cllr Ryan said that convicted criminals “should not be aided and abetted by anyone in Government or by anyone in the Fianna Fail Party.”

In response, Minister O’Dea said that as a person, Councillor Ryan was “utterly without credibility.”

“This is a grab for publicity to conceal her inactivity and lack of percormance as a councillor,” Minister O’Dea said.

The full story is on the front page of the paper tomorrow.  My spidey sences tell me one of these two will not be in Fianna Fail come the next election.

John, I'd say thats the way it will end, with Noreen having to jump ship.

Willie making representations on behalf of 29 prisoners, including a murder suspect and a number of drug dealers.....I really hope the vote grabber is proud of himself! He should be ashamed of himself. I thought he was supposed to stand for decent people NOT thugs! Corporal O'Dea....hang your head in Shame. Good on you Noreen....only thing, join a decent political party!!

I meant to say when she ran in the last GE she hadnt willy' full support

Yeah thats her own personal website, she also has a space/page on the fianna fail website where she can be contacted. I like NR , but i think her dispute with willie goes back to the 2007 general election, willie refused to back her if she ran as a candidate in the last general election
  • @ ENF,

It looks like Noreens website is down. Her account is suspended and the domain was never renewed on the 23rd of November. (www.noreenryan.ie)

You have a thing for handbags.

Do you want to tell us something?
  • ENF
HS im sure you could contact her about your querie, she has a website with her contact details on it
  • Also, is Willie suggesting An Post can't be trusted to deliver requests from families that he has to be relaying messages to the department of justice?
  • Is everyone missing the context that the FF local selection interviews were talking place last week/this week? It was in the leader with suitable expressions of disinterest in the process from local FF heavy hitters (in their own minds at least) such as Eddie (I could still get into the Dail) Wade and Jack (only a council seat makes me feel complete) Bourke.

I suspect that Noreen had her interview and picked up the vibe that she is not likely to be selected. I particular think her GE performance where she got barely 200 more votes than in the locals and she canvassed wearing sunglasses (was it the British Army that did the ad about the importance of making eye contact? Perhaps that is why she didn't see it). And bright young lad Brian Stokes is bucking to get on the ticket in Castleconnell. FF aren't going to hold their seats by nominating imperious ladies who lunch

Still it is also better for her to leave the party in a huff because she was standing up for the 'local people', run as an independent and if elected to return to the fold triumphant. With the FF logo more toxic than my face on a poster it could be the only winning strategy for her.

No one ever said FFers were thick when it came to looking after themselves, it's only when it comes to looking out for the rest of us that the brain fails to engage.
