County Council asked to consider re-using “final” resting places

Friday, December 26th, 2008

Over a century ago they were given a propper burial, no one knows who they are, and now they have no one to defend them or protect them from the greedy mits of Limerick County Council.

It is hardly surprising, considering what this party is doing to the living, that a member of Fianna Fail would come up with a plan to take something from the dead – their place of burial.

Councillor Eddie Wade, has asked the Council to consider re-using the graves of people whose history is not known in the area due to a lack of documentation, or who do not have headstones.

“I’m talking about graves that are 100 and 120 years old and we may be only talking about seven or eight plots per graveyard but every little bit helps. There are cemeteries around Limerick that people don’t even know about so if you got a few in each one it could help the situation considerably.” Councillor Wade is quoted on the Limerick Leader website.

One wonders how he would feel about his own resting place being re-used some time around the year 2150.

Missing Kitten: Rhebogue area

Wednesday, December 24th, 2008

Given the number of people who come here, I hope we can help mary out.

I was wondering if ye could mention somewhere in the blog today, or over the Christmas about a missing kitten. He has been missing for the last two days from the Rhebogue area. He is about 9 months old (not really a kitten any more I guess! and he is biggish for his age), dark tabby colours and neutered. I know it’s not really typical ‘Limerick Blogger’ news but Tiger’s little sis Lilly is pining mighty for him :) not to mention myself! I bottle fed the little fella at two weeks old. I have sent out search parties, searched high and low and not a sign of him. He is a bit of an adventurer and he may be stuck somewhere, hopefully not starving or cold! I’ve contacted a few vets around town and Limerick Animal Welfare and I’m hoping that someone might come across him.

If anyone can help find Mary’s lost cat, you can mail us at editors@limerickblogger.org with a phone number so we can arrange collection.

With this line up they bring a whole new dimension to the songs made famous by Alabama 3. This isn’t acid house music, this is country/gospel/delta blues, but played with a rhythm you’ve still got to dance to. The ghost of Mississippi Fred McDowell haunting the fingers of Rock Freebase on guitar, Larry Love’s larynx looser than Howlin’ Wolf. Devlin Love’s vocals as sweet as Sister Rosetta and Harpo Strangelove’s harmonica cooking up a Sonny Terry vibe – welcome to the Delta Blues alive and kicking in 2008.
