John’s to keep A and E, but Ennis and Nenagh to lose theirs

A public protest has been organised in Nenagh tonight against the recommended closure of Accident and Emergency services at Nenagh and Ennis hospitals.

The protest is to be held in Nenagh at 2000 hrs.

Meanwhile, the Limerick Leader is reporting that St. John’s is to keep it’s doctor lead accident and emergency unit despite the recommendations of last week’s HSE report.

The HSE initially refused to publish the report, however they were forced to do so after parts of it were leaked to the Irish Times and the Labour Party threatened to publish the report.

There was a large attendance at tonights rally in Nenagh, clearly sending out that the people of North Tipp and surrounding areas will not be fobbed off by the HSE or Mary Harney.

Fianna Fail's John Hogan waffled on stage and was eventually booed off, while PD Joe Hennesy could not string a sentence together. FG's Dr James Reilly spoke and gave his full support for the campaign, as did Deputy Coonan and Labour, along with Sinn Fein. The Greens did not even bother to send a spokesperson, and Fianna Fail's very own Maire Hoctor our Minister for Older People and TD for Nenagh did not even bother to show up either!

Its clear from tonight that a long and bitter battle is underway.

There will be a march on Nenagh Hospital this coming Sat Feb 21st.
