I second Roisíns thoughts for the driver and her family. The guilt she will have to live with is unimaginable.

Wasn't the Cat's Cradle ownder by the girls uncle?
  • pandybare
i used to know the owner of Cats Cradle

That bend by the Cats Cradle is where that bus crashed crashed a number of years ago killing some Pike rovers supporters coming back from a match. My thoughts are with the girls family. Tragic.

Very sad news and every sympathy to this young girl's family. I'd be inclined to spare a thought also for the driver and his or her family. Although not ended, the lives of drivers involved in fatal accidents are changed forever.

i would be care to expand GreenRaven. it is very simple, observe the behaviour of people on the roads- be they pedestrians: jay walking (not illegal hear- would it matter if it were?) or not wearing hiviz gear
motorists- drunk driving, on their mobile phone, excess speed, lack of care courtsey or consideration to the terrain of the roads and weather.
    impatient drivers and slow drivers.
cyclists taking chances and making their own rules.
the state of roads, road markings, traffic lights- especially the side green arrow, lack of indicator use.
a school boy whose name escapes me now was killed in 2008 on his way to school in ennis/quin i think
and of course the four youths killed on new years day.
how can I continue to be surprised/devestated when road carnage occurs?
my first thought when i hear these reports on the radio/tv is who do I will be in that place at that time.

It's been a terrible month on the roads of Limerick.

How families can cope with such devastating news is unimaginable and especially in the case of such a young life now lost.

The stretch of road there is notoriously deceptive to both drivers and pedestrians and has been the scene of many accidents throughout the years. Maybe that's what Raggy was referring to in fairness.

In either case our thoughts should rest solely with the Hourigan family, may they find strength to cope.

What a tragic event, my heart goes out to the family and friends of Maura. I am on this very road at least once a week and will be thinking of her and many others that have gotten killed on country roads!

Very vague comment to make considering the tragic event that has unfolded this morning.
