In response to " LimerickScot`s " comments regarding sean south being a
"murderous thug", i assume therefore that he also considers Wolfe Tone ,
Robert Emett, Patrick Sarsfield, Michael Collins etc to be murderous thugs.
Did all the above ( and thousands more besides ) not fight in the name of
freedom for Ireland from the scurge of British greed and oppression. Or
does Mr. "LimerickScot" suggest that we should have just accepted our
meagre lot rather than fight for our rights....To quote Michael Collins---
" war is murder, sheer bloody murder"... and we never wanted war- just
peace and freedom !!!!

A little late reply but found it that odd that even when one group pulls less than 40 attendees and in doing so get the bulk of the story while the other group who pulled just over 200 get a mere mention at the end of the story.

garden Says:

“Its high time that some of the lazy time servers are cleared out of the council ”

Interesting choice of words.Pat do you think you should go back and rephrase that!

Sure Garden, I'd be happy to rephrase my comments above as follows....Its high time that the people of Limerick voted out the current crop of lazy, ignorent city councillors and instead voted in people who actually want to work for their community!

The fact of the matter is there would be no free state in the north or the south of ireland if it was not for the actions of the people of ireland who formed the irish republican army and sinn fein(im not talking about the scumbags who are around now) who ARE concerned about the living, and in FACT DEFENDED THE VERY RIGHTS OF THE LIVING BOTH IN THE NORTH AND THE SOUTH OF IRELAND.

Is mise le meas,

if you can figure out what that means ... lol

ok, so undying fame surrounds his name.
because he bollexed up a mission in Non-iron.
and his mission was to go and kill people who were pretty much doing a paid job of work and probably happened to believe something different from him.
In my opinion there's too much romance attached to tales like this

there's nothing remotely heroic about setting off on a mission, intending to ambush men who were sons, fathers husbands. Nothng herioc at all, unless i am missing something.

to be clear, i am of irish descent, i have my life in limerick and i love the city, i'm a catholic, and i beleive ireland should be 1 country polictically, geographically and in every other context. but commemorating someone who in any other city in any other society would just be termed as a murderous thug - i cant see the benefit.

the earlier comments are spot on re SF - too much living in the past, quoting and dancing round decades of activity, that hasnt really brought about the required result.
