Bolivian police claim Ballinderry man involved in assassination plot
It is being claimed that a man from the town of Ballinderry in County Tipperary was one of three men killed in a shoot-out with police investigating an plot to kill the country’s president Evo Moralez. and the vice president.
The morning papers in Bolivia carried photos of the dead men on their front pages. The front page above being the exception.
Following the half hour shoot-out at a hotel in the city of Santa Cruz, the three dead men, named as Michael Dwyer from Ireland, Eduardo Rozsa Flores from Bolivia, and Magyarosi Arpad from Hungry, were taken away in body bags to a mortuary before being put on display for the press.
Two other men, Mario Tadic from Croatia, and Elod Toaso from Hungry, were taken away by police for questioning in the country’s capital, La Paz.
The media is also reporting that the president sent police to the hotel after he found out about the plot.
It is being claimed by authorities in Bolivia that the plot was set up by right-wing opponents of the president, the first indigenous Bolivian to be elected to the position, and who is a Socialist. His biggest opposition comes from the city of Santa Cruz.
