Gardai investigate shooting and explosion in city

Gardai are investigating two incidents which occurred in the city overnight.

The alarm was first raised at 0115 hrs when shots were fired at a house on Hyde Road. The house was occupied at the time but no one was injured in the attack. These people were evacuated by Gardai to a neighbours house.

Gardai were called again at 0500 hrs when there was what is believed to be an explosion outside a house on Bengal Terrace. Again, no one was injured in this incident, and Gardai are investigating the possibility that it was either a pipe bomb or a petrol bomb.

Both the scenes at Hyde Road and Bengal Terrace have been sealed off.

    that house in Hyde Road was targeted as well last year - the same person was shot at numerous times. I won't mention names but it was reported yesterday and that person was named. There is also a snippet in the Irish Times about it. It reminds me of that song - the knee bone's connected to the... ..:)

    What makes me titter is that Fachna Murphy gave a statement recently insisting that there was a reducution in firearm offences etc in Limerick, sort of backing up a recent statement/interview Supr Frank O'Brien gave in which he stated that crime levels had actually decreased in Limerick. Whilst I have great respect for Fachna Murphy, as I believe he is one of the fairest commissioners thus far, his statement is just way too far from reality!

    When you hear the 2 addresses you can narrow it down to two families fairly quickly.

    just heard that it wasent actually a bengal terrace house but one of the social housing scheem called allendale which is across the road from begal
    saddens me to hear such a lovely area as bengal was with nice people living there to be brought down to this level
