Limerick Blogger interviews Sinn Féin local election candidates.

Ireland South Election candidate for Sinn Féin, Toireasa Ferris was in Limerick yesterday evening to attend a public meeting on her party’s “Getting Ireland Back to Work” document. I will be uploading the video for this tomorrow.

I did however, get a chance to speak to some of the party’s local election candidates. Below, you can find interviews with Maurice Quinlivan, Limerick City North, Tom Collopy, Limerick City East, and Richard Young, Kilmallock County Council electoral area.

gerry adams has done more than his fair share for ireland , he brought the peace process forward, instead of the uup who kept on the NO rant..
It is easy to critisise and not tackle the real problems,he has face a lot in his lifetime and still managed to bring the peace process forward and get the actual ira decomissioned as for the rira lol they are a bunch of glorified scummers,i have not seen many politicians tackle the thankless jobs such as bringing peace to many communities in the north..A REAL POLITICIAN IN ACTION,ALTHOUGH I CANNOT SPEAK FOR THE MORE JUNIOR MEMBERS..

Just watched the above video and I thought they had some good ideas. We need a change in government and I dont know if Sinn Fein will make any difference but they cannot be any worse that the shower of legalised criminals that are in power now!
  • Conor
Roisin, this event took place in Limerick last Wednesday night. The job losses in Tralee were announced on Friday!

What timezone are you living in?

  • Roisin
Bryan Dobson on RTE Six One News, Wednesday, 22nd April, reported on SIPTU's 'grave concerns for the future' of Amann and the calling of the Friday lunchtime meeting.
  • Conor
Okay Roisín, you dislike Toireasa and her party, I get it, but don't let that get in the way of having a mature discussion. By the way, why do put 'quotation' marks around the word constituents?
  • Roisin
The word constituents, to me, would point to a two-way deal - we elect a person, and they represent us. But if, on the evening, when over 200 jobs in the immediate locality of the representative were clearly on the line, they were in another county launching their party's 'Getting Ireland Back to Work' document, instead of being out and about the home town supporting devastated constituents, then I'd see that as being a deal breaker. That's why I put the word constituents in quotation marks.

I do not know Toireasa Ferris and therefore I could not possibly dislike her in any personal way. However I would feel free, since she is a politician, to comment on her political choices and statements. And as for disliking her party? Well, abhor would be a more apt word.

  • Limerick exile
Ms Ferris is the Sinn Fein Eu candidate for South so Limerick is part of her area to cover, she can't be everywhere at once, but she works hard for all her constituents even us limerick people exiled to other parts of Munster where we are unlucky not to have a local sf councillor yet, looking good for June though.
  • Roisin
Poor Toireasa, 200 jobs in Tralee going down the tubes as she spoke.
  • Roisin
Politicians live on timing and spin and if she even wanted to maintain the illusion of giving a tiny particle of a damn she would have been back on her own turf supporting her 'constituents' who were facing the chop and not showing up as eye candy to counteract the look of the scary boyos.
  • geezer
    supporting her 'constituents' eh?
what do you suggest rosin? That she stand there and sing "always look on the bright side of life'" perhaps?

  • Jimmy Chew
    Yer one's not bad....
  • baz
its great to see an all ireland party with such strong candidated locally. hopefully all there hard work over the years turns into votes..
  • Colm
Will you extent the same level of coverage and air time to all political parties in the run up to the local elections?
  • Pat
    Told you so !

True to form up pops "Colm" to complain about Maurice Quinlivan & Sinn Fein being given coverage.

    Lets see now............

Did Colm complain when the Fine Gael Ard Feis was covered...ammmmm... NO

Did Colm complain when the Labour Party Annual Conference was covered...ammmmm... NO

Did Colm complain when the Green Party Transport document was covered...ammmmm...NO

Hmm, So apparantly it is just Maurice Quinlivan & Sinn Fein that Colm doesn't want us to hear about.

Sorry Colm, it doesn't work that way!
  • squidlimerick
    Colm

When the Greens launched their transport document in Lim erick in the run up to the general election, I recorded it and posted it here. I went to their conference in Wexford and interviewed the party candidates I could get my hands on. I also gave good coverage to Fine Gael during their ard feis. I covered John Gillmores visit to Limerick and were it not for the difficulty in finding accomodation in Mullingar, I would have gone to their ard feis aslso. I wasn't invited to Fianna Fail's ard feis.

So in short, those willing to give some of their time to give an interview or invite us to their party events locally have gotten coverage. those who did not, were not covered.

I think I have accomodated as many people as will allow and would welcome requests from other candidates to cover their activities.
  • Pat
I suppose that it only a short while now before some new contributor pops up demanding that Quinlivan & Sinn Fein be censored. Some of their political opponents locally are playing very dirty.
  • Johnone
Good to see some new faces in Limerick politics. Lets hope the public will listen to what they have to say.
  • the godfater
we will listen to them alright but we wont vote for them, a bunch of dreamers, fast fixes to everything that will work for about a year and then collapse.
