Michael Dwyer’s remains arrive in Ireland
The remains of a 24 year old Tipperary man shot dead in Bolivia last week have arrived in Ireland.
Michael Dwyer, from Ballinderry in County Tipperary, was shot dead during a pre-dawn raid by elite police forces in a hotel in the city of Santa Cruz last Thursday.
At the time, Bolivian authorities claimed that he was a member of a terrorist cell whose goal was ultimately, to kill the president of the country, Evo Morales.
Some doubts have however emerged as to the validity of the claims, and there have been persistent calls, both from Bolivian opposition politicians, and the governments of a number of countries, including Ireland, for an international investigation into the raid.
Today, Mr. Dwyers remains were handed over to the Dublin county coroner, and a pathologist is due to carry out an examination.
