Riverfest details are announced

Details of the 2009 Riverfest have been announced.

Organisers have taken advantage of the timing of the Heineken Cup semifinal by incorporating the match into the festivities.

There will be a 14 metre screen showing the match on Georges Quay. The game will be preceeded and followed by live music.

A special mass is also being held at the Augistinian church on O’Connell Street

The fireworks display is back. We are promised that the display, which was sorely missed last year, will be making a comeback.

The BBQ cook-off will be gone, but there will be plenty of food on offer, and members of the public might even get a chance to sample it this time.

Food offerings include the Continental market, an Ice Cream party being held in Arthurs Quay Park, as well as a Pig-on-a-spit outside the Locke Bar.

Highlights from the blurb

  • An outdoor big screen (14 square metres) will be provided on George’s Quay to show the Heineken Cup Semi-Final with messages of support for Munster from some well known faces
  • Live Music on George’s Quay before and after the big game
  • A special Mass will be celebrated at the Augustinian Church at 10.15am on the morning of the big game to pray for the Munster team and to wish the boys in red the very best of Limerick luck!

  • Sounds great, although I'm intrigued as to what the ice cream party encompasses?

I don't think the Mass is part of riverfest ..i would think it's info for the papers about what's going on for the match cos im sure there's lots of press going to be in limerick to see how we celebrate.
I think the line up is really good this year, i love the sound of the huge market. also the bbq people aren't doing themselves any favours ranting on facebook etc. they sound like children throwing their toys out of a pram and i never got any free food either, just watched people cooking. At least there's a bbq giving out food this year and a pig on a spit....can you eat his head aswell?
  • I agree about the website, I blogged about it earlier today and couldn't find much online to refer to. This is disgraceful as online promotion is pretty much free, and very easy. Even though I trying to convince myself it will be great( I have to lie to myself a little I'll be selling at the market), I'm not that excited by the line-up. The lack of BBQ is a huge loss

Thats the same BBQ where you watch people cooking, yeah?
The one where you can't actually eat any of the food cooked?

I always found that hilarious. No loss.

This site is awash with miserable sentiments lately.

    meh to all that...

in other news that festivals website is an absolute disgrace

    Looks good to me.

I enjoyed the Ceili last year and I may go and watch the match on the big screen.

The mass for Munster has me confused. If Leinster Catholics have a mass too won't God have a bit of a predicament.
  • Pat
Is there actually any info on that site about it?
  • {Batman}
    What a load of bollix....
A mass is being held for riverfest....
Oh I can see the scramble for tickets/seats for that,

I think they are trying to make up for the crap display on Paddy'd Day.
  • ROG
The ice-cream party is free...HB are sponsoring it
  • Hoof
Might show it on the big screen while they're at it. Although I thought if anyone needed Divine Intervention at Croke Park on Saturday week they'll be wearing blue.

Reminds me of the "Speed" episode from Father Ted ........."You can't bate a good Mass, Ted".....pushing it a bit making a mass part of a "festival".
  • Pat
Other than the big screen there seems to b every little there.

It shows a lack of imagination.

Luckily for the organisers, the big screen will probably draw a crowd.
