Internet is virgin territory for nutty novena

Three days early for the lone parents collection day, and a week late for the Children’s Allowance, the Virgin Mary appeared in a church yard in Rathkeale along with child in the form of a tree stump.  It is being claimed that upwards of 4,000 signatures have now been collected in a campaign to stop the remainder of the tree being removed.

The deciduous deity appeared while workmen were removing the trees in the St. Mary’s Church in the town.

The Parish Curate, Father Willie Russell was not impressed, stating that one could not worship a tree as it was idolatry.

In the 1980s, when the self proclaimed immaculate conception did her last tour of the grottos of rural Ireland, there was no World Wide Web for her exploits to gain legs.  But nowadays, the world is pointing and laughing at the God fearing people of Rathkeale.

BBC News and Sky have featured the story.  It even made the front page of the website of a local station in Texas.

Seeing as its doing the rounds on Twitter, it should get a hashtag How about #nuttynovena

  • Could it be any more embarrassing? People watching the BBC or Sky News reports must think we are bunch of half-wits still living in medieval times. Oh wait...

I wish these people would just stop with this nonsense. They are making Limerick people look like something out of Father Ted. And to make the shame even worse, Sky News have it now as well. Way to go Rathkeale...
