What do you chose, to tell what you know is the truth, or do you tell what you are told tell. Do you keep what you know a secret, all the bad things, that society says keep quiet, we dont want others to know what its really like. These are no discussions between generations here in Ireland, and hence the backlash, and lack of understanding people seem to have about this book, and any author or artist who choses to bring to the public view what the church and state will never do. The attack this man made on Frank Mccourt is more telling about the state of this society, and its lack of understanding of who the real truth tellers are. I am not just speaking of artists either, any individual can stand up and say what the believe, or know, that is a freedom that most do not excercise. Consider his book published at the time he speaks of early 20th century Ireland, would have never happened. How far back does all go, probably to much for people to bare, so generation to generation carries a torch of shame, until one finally stands up and says I will not go on in this way, I break the chain. Which leads to a discussion of how long is it gonna be till people start standing behind those who have carried all the lies, all the sorrows, all the woes, that were not their own, and who stand up in tears to speak their peace. Those who so vehemently abolish, and judge are those abhor change, and continue this long chain of shame. The Choice is yours, who will you stand by. Dig deep, the history is quite strong, and all the answers are there, just takes the actions of only few and this has always been true. Irish Leaders have never been allowed a peaceful non -violent path of resistance, and this is why the legacy continues, and the corruption continues to deepen, to the core of the individual. Keep these men in arguing, and nothing will ever get done.
Ireland's time is coming, something new, something that brings all the history to one point, of understanding.

…..otherwise you're absolutely right, a gem of a novel that will outlive us all, as a Limerickman I'm certainly proud of Frank McCourt, Jim Kemmy, Michael Curtin, Denis O'Shaughnessy and others who have taken on the task of recording our citys more recent history in factual or fictional lore.

I thank them for the way they have shone a light through some dark days in the reign of the clergy and their forelock tugging legislature. Days which are hopefully in our past and gone from us, but are not forgotten within their pages.

Angela's Ashes was a subjective memoir, its' seen from HIS eyes …like it or loath it…

There is no denying it's simply one of the greatest Irish books ever written, a wonderful piece of majestic writing.

We all should be proud of it.
