After a serious fire Sunday night that has left homes badly damaged and unlivable, a mother and her 6 children and a pensioner have all been left homeless
Natasha Wallace arrived back to her home in Crecora Avenue, Ballinacurra Weston to find it in flames, her 90 yr old neighbor was trapped in her house and her son managed to rescue her. It seems the fire started in an uninhabited house that may of been used as a drugs den, locals say. Ms Wallace has been forced to check into a hotel with her children Mark, 8, Nadine, 10, Colby, 6, Troy, 3, James Dean, 2 and Taylor, 5.
Ms Wallace was quoted saying ““I am in shock, I just don’t know what I am going to do now. I don’t know whether I am coming or going. I had all my children’s gifts ready in the attic, and they are all wrecked,” the devastated mum said. “The electric is gone. The ESB have told us not to go back in there for our own safety. There is no way we can live there anymore,” she confirmed. Roxboro Gardai are investigating the fire. and can be contacted on 061-214340

If you have traveled between Limerick and Kerry along the coast road,or maybe been waiting for the Tarbet ferry to sail there is a good chance you will have popped into Kirby’s Lantern’s Hotel for some food and a drink. It has a fantastic location overlooking the Shannon estuary, many a wedding picture has had that beautiful view as it’s backdrop.
Sadly the hotel is closing it’s doors, the recession has hit it and the time has come to admit defeat after 40 years in business and many fond memories. The owners have said they have not gone into receivership and are sorry to be closing the doors.

Some feel that maybe if the Shannon LNG project had gone ahead on time then things would be different, by that being held up there was less money in the area to keep the hotel going.

It’s a landmark that will be missed by many, especially those who met there partners at a dance there or who use the hotel as their stopping point on their journey’s.

Argos are looking for their Christmas staff, this year they expect to take on 800 people countrywide of which 50-60 will be for applicants in Limerick.
Since coming to Ireland 15 years ago Argos has been a big hit with shoppers, it’s handy to be able to get items under the one roof so they always have a steady stream of customers which of course goes up come Christmas
The company says the workers will have flexible working hours, training and competitive pay and that they will also receive a staff discount during their period of employment.
According to Terry Duddy some of those who are hired for the Christmas period may even end up securing permanent roles early in the new year

A fire was started last night in the desolate Opera Centre, the centre which was ear marked to be a massive shopping outlet such as the ILAC centre in Dublin came to a stand still as the Celtic tiger died. Since then this area is like a concrete graveyard with some beautiful Georgian buildings starting to descend to rubble. The project is now owned by NAMA and nothing is going on there apart from people vandalizing what is left of the place.
This is what happened last night when 2 Limerick fire crews were met with a blaze in the upstairs of the building which used to be the Mid West Business Institute at the Old Town Hall Centre. Old educational materials and papers were set alight, although the fire service got the blaze under control quickly there has been major smoke damage left. It is thought the arsonists gained entry via the rear of the building.
The Commercial Buildings were built by the Commercial Building Company in 1805 and were occupied by the Chamber of Commerce until 1838 and later acquired by Limerick Corporation who used the building as the Town Hall from 1847 to 1990.
